Blizzard has ‘secretly’ released a new Overwatch game. You can finally live out your deepest desires and go on a date with Mercy.
Fans have been waiting for a new game from Blizzard for many years, but what has been presented to them now is something they probably did not expect. Because Overwatch quietly received a new offshoot – or at least a humorous parody of it. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the site of ‘LoverWatch: Love Never Dies’ went online. There you can experience a little adventure – and show your beloved hero from Overwatch 2 what you feel for them.
What kind of game is this? ‘LoverWatch’ is a dating sim set in a ‘non-canonical part’ of Overwatch. This means that the game is not part of the official Overwatch lore – much like the conversations in the spawn room of Overwatch 2. However, the game emphasizes that it could very well be lore.
You play as yourself and for some inexplicable reason decided it was a good idea to be at a pub during an amateur comedy night and there you lay eyes on the love of your life: the healer Mercy or the cyborg ninja Genji. From now on, your goal is to win the love of the respective character. You are assisted by Hanzo in the form of Cupid, who continuously gives you helpful tips (or something like that…) to help you land with your crush.
A game that doesn’t take itself seriously: LoverWatch is full of humor. It does not take itself or the Overwatch universe too seriously, yet remains true to the characters and the world. The jokes range from quite flat (on par with ‘dad’ jokes) to being at a level that makes you think a little – only to then slap your forehead.
‘Hey, Mercy, do you want to hear my favorite joke about the periodic table?’
‘No.’

Moreover, the developers not only poke fun at the story of the game but also at player behavior. For example, you can ask Genji if ‘he needs healing’ – which immediately brings him to tears. A nod to the fact that Genji players have a reputation for always spamming ‘I need healing!’ while simultaneously running away from the healer at the other end of the map.

What rewards are there? If you complete the game with all possible routes, there is even an in-game reward in Overwatch 2 waiting for you. You can earn a special highlight intro for Hanzo, where he shoots Cupid’s arrow directly into your heart. To do this, you need to have completed the game on all 3 routes – once with Mercy, once with Genji, and a third time where you take on Cupid directly.

Who is behind the game? The little game was developed by Psypop – the same people who also created ‘I love you, Colonel Sanders’ or the extremely bizarre ‘Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim’. Accordingly, you can expect a lot of self-referential humor and a plethora of gags that will make you roll your eyes to the point of complete rotation.
If you can warm up to such games at all, you should definitely play LoverWatch. It doesn’t take much time and is really entertaining. Plus, there’s an in-game reward waiting at the end…
