Capcom has introduced a new game called Exoprimal. It will be a cooperative shooter with futuristic mech suits and dinosaurs. They fall from the sky like rain, and you have to shoot them down in absurd numbers. What we know so far about the new game for the PS5 can be found here on MeinMMO!
What kind of game is this? Sony’s “State of Play” event on March 9, 2022, brought a big surprise. Suddenly, there was a trailer for a game called Exoprimal, where strange dimensional portals open over cities in a near future, literally raining down dinos.
These are then shot down by a team of 5 tough badasses with mech exoskeletons. In the end, one of the guys even gets eaten by a T-Rex. It all looks totally insane and ridiculous, but also very cool.
Why is it raining dinosaurs? We don’t know. It’s just that in 2043, so-called “Vortexes” appear regularly, and then it rains… dinosaurs. Since this can supposedly be foreseen in advance, there is a broadcast that treats these dino appearances like a weather report.
Therefore, the affected areas can also be evacuated in time and your armored heroes are there to give the scaly beasts a good smack in the prehistoric nose.
Cooperative action with mech suits like in Anthem
How does the game play? The trailer apparently shows concrete gameplay scenes. From this, we can see that it is likely a cooperative shooter. Up to 5 players embody the fearless fighters of the “IAS Exofighter Squad”.
They have high-tech combat suits with unique abilities. The designs of the suits are reminiscent of the unfortunate game Anthem by Bioware. Especially the bulky suit and the agile one look very similar to their counterparts in Anthem.
For the skills of the suits, inspiration seems to have been taken from Overwatch, as one of the mech suits has a large energy shield that strongly resembles the shield of Reinhardt from Overwatch.
Other suits, on the other hand, seem to have limited flying capabilities, while others go into close combat with swords, bashing raptors like ragdolls through the vegetation.
Generally, you seem to be consistently outnumbered, as the game apparently really throws a true flood of prehistoric creatures at you. Teamwork and tactics seem to be essential here.
Later in the game, larger beasts also appear, such as an angry Triceratops that simply breaks through everything, and in the end, even a hefty T-Rex as the final boss. He can obviously chew through an exo-suit in one bite.
When is the game coming out? Capcom has only announced 2023 as the release date. So you’ll have to be a little patient before you can shoot down dinosaurs.
Which platforms will it support? The trailer only shows the logos of PS4 and PS5 at the end. Whether the game will also be available for PC and the Xbox consoles is still unknown. The fine print also refers to the online service PS Plus, so it is likely an online game.
