On October 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released, and the marketing for the new shooter is in full swing. Now a “Celebrity Trailer” featuring some celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Formula 1 driver Lando Norris has been released. However, the “Squad Up” trailer is not receiving positive feedback.
Call of Duty has been known for high-quality marketing campaigns for years. Especially right before the launch of a new CoD, the creators really go all out and also spend a lot of money on guest stars.
Modern Warfare 2 has now released its “Celebrity Trailer.” However, the reactions to the style of the trailer are not particularly positive. MeinMMO summarizes a few opinions for you.
Many views, but lots of dislikes
The trailer operates under the motto “Squad Up” and resembles military marching chants. One person shouts a rhythmic phrase, which is echoed by the surrounding people in melody.
Included are well-known faces, including musicians like Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, and Kane Brown. But also some athletes like Formula 1 driver Lando Norris and English football player Bukayo Saka from Arsenal London. The CoD community is represented by the popular Warzone streamer Swagg and his Nuke Squad.
Just the trailer on YouTube has surpassed 2 million views after about 16 hours (via youtube.com). However, a glance at the like/dislike ratio already reveals that many players cannot identify with the trailer – about 30,000 likes compared to over 36,000 dislikes (as of: 10.10.22 / 10:30 AM).
Similarly, the comments look like this:
- Jorge writes: “You shouldn’t do something like that. Save the money and put it into the development of the game.”
- halo saver 117 states: “I miss the old ‘there’s a soldier in all of us’ trailers.”
- Flugeo says: “Feels a bit like the unpopular YouTube rewind 2018.”
However, the most popular comment comes from SilentChavo: “I was wondering where the ‘let’s buy a few random celebrities’ trailer was.” Moreover, many are surprised about the appearance of race car driver Lando Norris. Positive reactions are currently sparse.
