HoYoverse is currently working on a new RPG in the Honkai series, which ties into Honkai Impact: 3rd. It is titled Honkai: Star Rail and is a turn-based strategy RPG set in space. At the Tokyo Game Show 2022, the developers showcased the latest trailer.
“Was I thrown into a science fiction movie?” is a question one of the characters asks at the beginning of the trailer. In the background, an emotional and hopeful violin melody plays while the story of the game is narrated in voice-over.
It is about travelers who must journey through space aboard the Astral Express to save mankind. Earth is lost, so their ancestors created a new one that now needs to be explored. You play as one of the “Witnesses”, as the title of the new trailer states.
Throughout, there are combat scenes that strongly remind one of Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact: 3rd. However, the turn-based battles that are supposed to be in Honkai: Star Rail are not seen.
What kind of game is this? Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play space RPG with engaging anime graphics that is currently in development. So far, it is a title for single players. Whether there will be a multiplayer mode in the future is still unclear. It will be released for iOS, Android, and PC.
The characters are partly from Honkai Impact: 3rd, while some are new. Thus, the developers aim to appeal to both Honkai fans and new players alike.
Honkai: Star Rail offers the following content:
- A post-apocalyptic story that takes you into space
- Turn-based battles – You must decide strategically how to proceed.
- The ability to explore various planets
When will Honkai: Star Rail be released? A release date for the RPG has not yet been announced. So far, the developers have conducted 2 closed beta tests, for which one could register on the official website of Honkai: Star Rail. The last one took place in May 2022.
