The “Children of the Worm” have arrived in Back 4 Blood and are causing chaos. We show you what’s in the new campaign.
For a long time, it was quiet about the indirect “Left 4 Dead” successor Back 4 Blood. After the first DLC went live some time ago, there was hardly any news from the zombie hunt.
But now the game is back and has released the 2nd major DLC called “Children of the Worm”. The new story chapter brings 6 maps with a fresh story and new, unique enemies.
What’s in the campaign? The new campaign is the 5th act of Back 4 Blood and consists of a coherent story with 6 maps. It revolves around a mysterious cult that has allied with the “Ridden” – apparently humans who cooperate with the Ridden and can direct them for their purposes.
However, it seems that these cultists are not entirely human anymore – a mystery that needs to be unraveled throughout the campaign.
The existence of this cult has already been teased in the “Tunnels of Terror”, the 1st DLC, as players collect skull totems that apparently come from this cult.
Aside from the campaign, there is again a new Cleaner, a fresh playable character. He has his own story and enriches the dialogues with his own voice lines. Dan, who is liked by everyone as “the Prophet,” seems to be a religious fanatic who believes in “the Light” and now demands help from Fort Hope. He seems important to thwart the plans of the cultists.
What new weapons are available? Of course, a new DLC cannot come without weapons and new gadgets. Some of the new weapons and items are:
- Bear traps: These large traps can be used once and snag the next special Ridden that steps in, holding it in place and dealing significant damage.
- pus-glasses: These jars are filled with disgusting substance that creates a cloud upon impact, attracting all Ridden in the vicinity for a while.
- Bow and arrow: A silent weapon that can be extremely deadly and does not attract other Ridden.
- Iron claws: A melee weapon that allows you to strike with claws at a rapid pace.
New skins for the Cleaners, weapons, banners, and spray logos are also being added. The cosmetic offerings in the game are thus continuing to grow. New cards have also been added, which should spice up your decks a bit – this also includes cards used by the AI director to present new challenges to players.
What does the future hold? At least one major expansion is still to come, although there is no release date yet. How things will continue after the last DLC remains uncertain – but fans seem glad that content is still being delivered, and the game is continuously being improved.
