With the new expansion Dragonflight, World of Warcraft receives new dragon mounts with some very special features. They do not fly endlessly, but steadily sink towards the ground. Additionally, you can unlock new abilities, including a speed boost and the popular roll.
What can be seen in the video? We at MeinMMO had the opportunity to try an alpha version of Dragonflight as press and gather our own impressions. One focus was on the new dragon riding:
- Immediately at the start, you see us gliding through the new region Azure Span and eventually arriving on the ground.
- From minute 01:01, you will see the running animations of the dragon.
- From minute 01:25, you will see the ability to build up a speed boost.
- From minute 02:09, we flew through an obstacle course. This consists of races over a specific track, for which you can earn various rewards and even beat your own records.
- To conclude, from minute 03:35 you will also see the new race Dracthyr, which can fly independently.
Every character can obtain such a dragon in the new expansion. During the alpha, we also had three different “skins” available, which had the same functions even though they were separate mounts. Dragon riding bridges the classic phase in Dragonflight, where flying mounts are still prohibited in new zones, making it appealing to utilize flying.
What else did we experience in the alpha? Quite a bit. We have already spent 7 hours playing with the new class Evoker and written an initial assessment of it.
In the coming days, we will also publish articles about the length of the campaign, the new zone, and a special on the topic of UI.
For a general first impression of the expansion, find here a preview article from the colleagues at GameStar.
When can I play the alpha myself? The alpha likely starts today, on July 14. There is currently no official statement. However, you must receive an invitation for this alpha. When exactly an open beta starts is currently unknown.
What do you think about dragon riding? Does this feature appeal to you? Or are you more skeptical and waiting for regular flying in the zone?
