The MOBA shooter Deadlock has released its biggest update yet on Steam. However, the star of the update is someone else.
What is Deadlock? Deadlock is a MOBA shooter and the current big project from Valve on Steam. It is a mix of hero shooters like Overwatch or Marvel Rivals and MOBAs like DotA 2 or League of Legends. On August 18, 2025, the largest Deadlock update to date was released. The star of the patch? A cat.
Why do players love a cat so much? The cat doesn’t just sit around doing cat things, it plays with you when you use the right tools. A ball lying around is a great toy for the cat, just like a sniper laser that it chases, as Reddit user MrWhenXd found out.
Reddit user BboyIImpact commented what every Deadlock player was thinking: “This is real Deadlock content.” His comment received over 1,000 upvotes.
Another Reddit user named Westo6Besto9 wrote about small details like this: “You can tell that the people working on this game care a lot. I know it’s something small, but you only add stuff like that when you’re really passionate about it.”

Major map changes and 6 new heroes are also part of the update
What’s new in the big update? The main menu of Deadlock has been changed into a base where you can roam around alone or with your friends and interact with certain things to, for example, search for a match or learn the basics of the game.
In this base, there is also a room with an enemy and allied hero to try out their abilities, as well as to play with the popular cat.
Furthermore, the map has been drastically adjusted. The different lanes now follow a theme. The green lane is more urban, featuring a nice park, while the yellow lane looks like a construction site. Additionally, the lighting has been adjusted to represent the streets of New York during a solar eclipse.
In addition to these changes, 6 new heroes are being added. They will not be released all at once, but will be chosen by the players. From Monday, August 25 to Friday, August 29, the last three heroes will be released. So far, the following have joined the roster: Mina, a vampire, Billy, a punk goat, and the Doorman, who can use doors like a portal gun.
The next heroes to be released are Paige, Drifter, and Victor. The new heroes were leaked earlier in the Deadlock subreddit. Besides the now official 6 newcomers, even more heroes could be seen there: Streamer leaks secret test version of Valve’s new Steam game, Open beta possible soon
