The updates for DotA 2 are anything but reliable when it comes to release times. After a long wait, a player became impatient and began to threaten a penguin in the game. Valve released one of the biggest updates for DotA 2 a few days later.
What’s with the penguins? In 2018, a picture of the hero Bounty Hunter was posted on Reddit, where he threatened a penguin. The request was simple: Valve should please release the new update as soon as possible, or worse things would happen to the penguin.
Eight years later, the same threat resurfaced. The demands are the same. Valve is finally supposed to release patch 7.38 after 6 months of waiting.
Six days after the Reddit post, Valve finally unleashed their massive update “Wandering Waters” on the DotA 2 players.
How does the community react to the threat? Many DotA 2 players remember the meme from 2018. Some interesting comments were made:
- “Finally, the penguin threat,” writes TKJasper (via reddit.com)
- “Oh damn, it’s getting serious,” writes ZhicoLoL (via reddit.com)
Another user (via reddit.com) had a brilliant idea for Valve. They should release a penguin hero and have him defeat the hero Bounty Hunter in a cinematic. A just punishment for threatening the penguins.
This is the biggest update in a long time
What is the biggest change in the update? The biggest change is the map of DotA 2. The river in the middle has expanded into the jungle and beyond the lanes. If you run in the same direction as the flow, you get a movement boost.
The terrain has also been slightly changed. Some additional buildings have been moved and offer some new functions.
With patch 7.38, the boss Roshan is back in the river and moves from one pit to another at certain times in the game. While the river has expanded, new neutral enemies have appeared on the map. The new frog creatures evolve during the game from a simple tadpole to the ancient swamp mage.
Are there changes to the items? A new mechanic has been introduced regarding the neutral items dropped by jungle monsters. You can now craft and enchant the items with a currency you get from completely defeated jungle camps. These enchantments provide various bonuses to further customize your playstyle.
Most regular items have received updates or a rework, and some new items have been added.
What else is new? Currently, there are 126 different heroes. Each of them has received buffs or nerfs in patch 7.38. Many of the initial selectable aspects to customize your hero’s playstyle have also been changed.
While things are very quiet regarding DotA 2, Riot is making one misstep after another. After the removal of free Hextech chests, a long-awaited skin has now been hidden behind a paywall: Players have been waiting for years for a skin in LoL – Now it’s here, but it comes with a huge price tag
