In Pokémon GO the global Hoenn Tour is coming with Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. Some trainers already have the new forms – and that shows in PvP.
What kind of Pokémon are these? Kyogre and Groudon are generally already strong monsters, but they can recently become even more powerful via Primal Reversion. The concept works similarly to Mega Evolution and temporarily transforms the two monsters into their “Primal Form”.
These Primal Forms are brutally strong and the best attackers of their respective types. They will be unlocked during the global Hoenn Tour over Primal Raids this coming weekend, allowing trainers to secure the monsters.
However, players could already catch the two by participating in the GO Tour in Las Vegas with a ticket. Thus, some trainers already have the two monsters – and the opportunity to use them in the PvP league.
Since February 23, 2023, the “Mega Edition: Master League” has been running. And both are apparently allowed there.
Trainer meets Primal Groudon – Powerful monster currently dominates PvP
This is what trainers report: In the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad,” a post is currently gaining a lot of attention, showing how a trainer has to face Primal Groudon with their Mewtwo. User “travielee” directly asks: “Uh. How is this allowed? Absolutely destroyed”:
Normally, special forms like “Mega” Pokémon are not allowed in the battle league. However, the gimmick of the “Mega Edition” is that “Mega Evolutions” can be used there – and obviously also Primal Groudon, although one might not expect that from the “Primal” form.
The explanation comes from user “martycochrane” of the “Pokeminers” (via reddit): “Primals are exactly the same as Megas in the game, just with different texts and assets shown to users. For those curious: They are both referred to as ‘TempEvos’ in the game, and the Mega Cup allows ‘TempEvos’.”
That’s why players can currently use Primal Groudon or face it. And the monster is apparently currently a top choice when putting together a team for the Mega Master League.
How powerful is Primal Groudon right now? Simply from the CP values, Primal Groudon and Kyogre are in a class of their own. According to the Gamepress database, both can reach 6672 CP under perfect conditions – no other monster in the game can currently match that. In the following positions are Mega Salamence with a maximum of 5688 and Mega Latios with 5661 CP (via gamepress.gg).
But not only that, the new special move “Abyssal Blade” is a direct upgrade for Groudon, making it very hard to beat right now.
On YouTube, for example, user “HomeSliceHenry” shows how Primal Groudon achieves impressive victories and can sometimes blow away strong monsters with just one charged move (via YouTube).
In the ranking for the Master League in the Mega Edition, Primal Groudon has certainly climbed to the top. The site “PvPoke” creates rankings of the best monsters in PvP based on simulations. There, Primal Groudon is currently clearly in first place – followed by Primal Kyogre. Next are the Mega Evolutions Gyarados, Swampert, and Latios.
Primal Groudon can be countered especially with Water Pokémon, as it has a double weakness to that type. Therefore, especially Primal Kyogre and Mega Swampert are a good choice against Primal Groudon.
However, not everyone can access the Primals yet. That will, however, change this weekend: Here you will find the overview of the global Hoenn Tour.
