The new consoles from Microsoft and Sony will be released soon – the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S. And Ubisoft has now explained in detail how exactly their latest games will be improved through free next-gen upgrades on the upcoming hardware compared to the PS4 and Xbox One.
When will the new consoles be released? Gamers won’t have to wait much longer – at least not if they managed to secure one of the new next-gen consoles in advance. Currently, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are sold out. Whether that will change before launch is still unknown.
But for those who were lucky, the following dates are when it starts:
- Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be available worldwide from November 10, 2020
- The PS5 will initially follow on November 12 in North America, Japan, Mexico, and some other countries. In Germany and other European countries, it will start on November 19 – a week later.
What’s the deal with next-gen upgrades? Numerous games will be released for the then old console generation and for the next-gen.
Many of these games will receive so-called next-gen upgrades on the PS5 and Xbox One platforms – either directly at launch or a bit later. This means that buyers of the last-gen versions will also be able to enjoy the new technical possibilities on the next-gen (usually) at no additional cost.
For 8 of its latest or upcoming games, Ubisoft has now explained in detail in a blog what changes come with the next-gen upgrades. Below you will find the games and the corresponding upgrade details.
By the way, all the upgrades listed below are free for owners of the PS4 or Xbox One versions. If you want to upgrade from the PS4 disc version to the PS5, consider that you need a PlayStation 5 with a drive. This will not be possible on the all-digital PS5.
