Since Ubisoft announced The Division 3 in 2023 as the next installment of its beloved loot shooter franchise, things have gone quiet about the third part of the series. However, the developers have now broken their silence.
Who is talking about The Division 3? The team from Massive Entertainment, which is responsible for The Division at Ubisoft, spoke in an interview with the online magazine gamesindustry.biz about the shooter franchise.
Part of the interview included Creative Director Yannik Banchereau and “The Division” Senior Producer Frederik Brönjemark, both leadership figures at Massive Entertainment.
Developers know exactly where The Division 3 is headed
What is being said about The Division 3: The developers revealed that there are two development paths at Massive Entertainment: one for The Division 2 and one for The Division 3. This should allow for learning across projects.
Although the developers cannot say much about The Division 3 at this point, the team is in a “really great position,” according to Creative Director Yannik Banchereau, as both teams share insights on “what works in a live game and what doesn’t.”
The fact that Julian Gerighty (formerly Creative Director and Executive Producer) left the studio in 2026, a driving force behind The Division, is “of course sad” for the team, but not a distraction, Brönjemark explains:
“As far as The Division 3 is concerned, we have our future and our roadmap, which is already secured, and we know exactly where we are going and what we want to do.”
Banchereau is also confident that the “The Division” franchise will still be around in 10 years.
To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the franchise, Massive Entertainment recently added a limited-time mode to The Division 2, in which the shooter plays significantly more realistically than fans of the base game are used to.
MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller really enjoyed this mode and wishes there was a way to play the shooter like this in the future. More on this here: The Division 2 has created a masterpiece with a new mode, and I wish this were a standalone game
