In Naruto, there are many characters that can be seen throughout the anime. However, two shinobi, who are among Naruto’s closest confidants, have never spoken a word to each other.
Who are they? The two people who do not exchange a word in Naruto are Hinata and Sasuke. Both are rather introverted and less articulate, but they are part of Naruto’s inner circle:
- Naruto and Sasuke have had a rivalry since their early childhood, which is actually based on a close friendship. The two motivate each other to become stronger. When Sasuke leaves Konohogakure, Naruto tries everything to bring him back.
- Hinata has been in love with Naruto since she was a child. The ninja boy only realizes relatively late that Hinata has deep feelings for him. By the end of the anime, it finally clicks for him, and the two get married.
Even during various missions and tests, the two have never managed to talk to each other. There is only one place in Naruto where they talk to each other – but it does not appear in the 220 episodes of the anime.

Sasuke only speaks to Hinata once and is rude
When do the two speak to each other? In the movie Naruto Shippuden – The Movie 2: Bonds, Sasuke throws the girl Amaru back to the ship. Hinata then addresses him by his name, but he only responds with “Shut up.”
In this scene, it is also possible that Sasuke is addressing Amaru. Thus, he would not have interacted with Hinata even once. At least, Hinata tried to address him at that moment.
Either way, since the movie is not part of the official Naruto storyline, the two have never spoken to each other in the actual anime. And that’s despite being Naruto’s closest confidants.
Does it stay that way? This changes when the two grow up. Although they still do not talk much to each other, there is at least a brief dialogue in the anime Boruto.
Sasuke visits the family at their home and asks if Naruto is at home. Hinata replies that Naruto is probably still working in the office. Sasuke then apologizes for the disturbance and leaves. One can’t really call these few sentences a conversation.
Even in One Piece, there are two crew members of Luffy who have a communication problem. They have never addressed each other by name.
