27-year-old Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo has had some tough months: After being accused of covering up a sexual assault, the Twitch streamer had to take a break from Twitch for several months. Now he is streaming again but is faced with a bitter reality: taxes.
How has Mizkif’s career been lately? For years, Mizkif was on the rise. From being the cameraman of the scandal streamer IcePoseidon , he became one of the largest variety streamers on Twitch, focusing on Nintendo:
- The streamer had his breakthrough on Twitch in 2021, was a founding member of the cool streamer organization “One True King”
- In 2022, he had a lot of success and received recognition: He participated in an event, where Twitch streamers got into shape at a fitness center. Here, Mizkif earned a lot of sympathy points for fully committing himself
- But in September 2022, there was a hard break: In a conflict with the streamer Trainwreck , Mizkif was accused of covering up a sexual assault. He subsequently disappeared from Twitch for 4 months and was only pardoned in January 2023 after a major internal investigation by his own organization, but placed on probation.
Mizkif hasn’t cared about taxes for 3 years
This is Mizkif’s problem: As the streamer explained on Twitch on January 12, he has let an incompetent company handle his tax consulting for 3 years. The company reportedly, according to Mizkif, had no idea about the life of a streamer, specializing in regular office jobs:
Do you know what’s worse? What’s added to my shitty January? So, I had a meeting. And I apparently had a tax team that, I don’t know, came from a toy store for three years. And well, I didn’t know. But I also didn’t meet with them that often, which is kind of my fault, I guess.
Mizkif says:
- His old tax company didn’t know what they were doing and told him he had to pay $400,000 – which he did
- However, the new tax company he hired is now telling him he must pay $800,000 – which he apparently does not have
There should actually be enough money with Mizkif:
What is his problem?? According to Mizkif, he has to pay about $400,000 by April 20, 2023, in addition to the $400,000 he has already paid.
Mizkif reports on a meeting with his new tax office:
“I’m saying: I thought I already paid you the fucking $400,000 in taxes. And they say: No, you now owe more taxes. You owe $800,000. So this is how much you have to pay in total: $800 grand, $400,000 now, $400,000 on April 20. I say: I can’t do this. I need to go to the gym with Knut, and I need to move. There’s no way I can make that much money.”
In the stream, he said: He is now “done.” He has overextended himself and doesn’t know what else to do.
Mizkif is considering selling his game collection, which is said to be worth $600,000
What does he want to do now? Mizkif now apparently plans to get down to business. He wants to sell his collection of vintage video games. Just a few days ago, he received an offer of $600,000 for them (via sportskeeda).
Another option would be to sell his current house for a high price: However, he has actually already promised the house to streamer and fitness guru “Knut” at a friend price. He was actually going to give it to him for 50% cheaper. This generosity seems to be something Mizkif is now regretting.
With the idea of paying fewer taxes, the German Twitch streamer MontanaBlack also played:
MontanaBlack wants to leave Germany: “That’s 400,000 € more in my account”
