Star Citizen is an absolute phenomenon. Since 2014, it has captivated tens of thousands of fans and raised over 600 million dollars through crowdfunding. In October, CitizenCon took place, where many new videos and information about the MMO were shared. One of these videos was watched by Twitch streamer Asmongold, who is very impressed.
What was the video about? Asmongold watched the Star Engine Tech Demo released at the event. The video is just under 24 minutes long and showcases various planets, landscapes, and buildings that can be entered. Additionally, it also features space travel and public transport reminiscent of the Transrapid.
All the content shown comes from Star Citizen itself, although long flight times were removed, as the video reveals at the beginning.
How does the streamer react? He is impressed from minute one. He says early in the video, during a scene showing the interior of a base station, that the game feels very realistic and populated.
„I can understand why people spend money on it.”
Especially the varied biomes, the high degree of detail, and the sheer size of the game made a lasting impression. Particularly, a scene with a gloomy spaceport and many fog veils captivated him.
At the end, he summarizes: „I now understand why people have been waiting 11 years for this game and investing so much money. […] I am so happy to have seen this video.”

Star Citizen impresses at the new fair, also with the single-player content
What else was shown at CitizenCon? The main highlight of the fair was a video about the single-player campaign Squadron 42. Tactical first-person shooter battles and stealth elements were presented. Moreover, several big Hollywood stars made appearances, including:
- Mark Hamill (Star Wars)
- Gillian Anderson (X-Files)
- Gary Oldman (The Fifth Element)
Originally, the campaign was supposed to be released in 2014, but there is still no release date. However, it has been revealed that Squadron 42 is now “feature complete”. All content is finished; now it is time for fine-tuning and bug fixing.

Can you already play Star Citizen? Yes, but you must spend money to gain access. Those who only want access to the multiplayer part can find initial packages for around 50 dollars. Here you get the MMO, which is currently in the alpha phase.
However, you will miss access to separated game elements, such as the mentioned Squadron 42. Additionally, there are dozens of other packages that differ in the ships as rewards.
Is it worth playing now? That depends on your own expectations. The game offers many features but is far from complete. New updates often bring problems with them.
Additionally, there can always be complete wipes, as happened last September 2021: Star Citizen takes away everything players have worked months for, and they love it.
What do you think about Star Citizen and the two videos? Does the space game appeal to you?
