The Twitch streamer Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar (32) is a master of failure on Twitch. One of his fails from CS:GO is legendary. In the hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov” the former CS:GO pro impresses again: No one dies and gets as upset about it as Summit1g.
This is how Summit1g fails in Escape from Tarkov: Tarkov is the ideal game to fail in because the tension builds slowly over a longer period of time, but it only takes a moment until you die.
Then you lose everything you brought into the match. The frustration factor is therefore quite high as well.
In one scene, Summit1g gets into a firefight and is actually in control. However, he misses multiple shots, giving the opponent a chance to respond, and is taken down with a shot.
The reaction is: He stands up from his chair, seems to consider what to do next, yells something, and then just runs out of the frame.
In the second scene, Summit1g is again in control and fires at an opponent he has spotted. But then he somehow falls from his position and gives away an advantage.
Now he wants to catch the opponent, whom he suspects is above him, with a grenade, but messes up the throw and dies in the explosion. Again, Summit1g stands up, looks around, and then runs out of the frame. This time he seems to pause briefly and takes a run-up like a comic character.
Summit1g – the Master of Failure
Why is Summit1g so good at failing? Summit1g is considered a competent and solid gamer, where gameplay is at the center and there are no big gimmicks. Nevertheless, it is precisely his fails and reactions to them that have made him famous, perhaps because he otherwise seems so competent and in control.
There are two legendary scenes in which Summit1g fails live:
In May 2016, Summit1g was allowed to participate again in a real “CS:GO” tournament as a former pro and had actually secured the round for his team with good performance. But on the way to defuse the bomb, he walked through the flames of his own Molotov cocktail and died – causing his team to lose.
This fail from three and a half years ago is still legendary today and is often referenced: The action even appears as an easter egg in Borderlands 3.
Here, the failure itself is fantastic because it actually happens after winning.
The other scene is “Summit1g hits the camera,” which has also become a cult classic.
There, he dies in H1Z1 and punches his own camera out of protest, then yells “I’m offline now, guys. See you later”: Here, the reaction to his own failure is what is fascinating, as it comes from the moment and has something aesthetic about it.
Summit1g’s failures are revered by his fans. They often play with gifts and jokes about it.
