The Twitch streamer and esports player Michael “shroud” Grzesiek usually plays shooters like Valorant. In his free time, he probably enjoys playing the card game Marvel Snap and has a certain ambition there as well: In a stream, he explained how he used questionable methods to achieve a victory.
Who is shroud? shroud was previously a professional in CS:GO but switched relatively early and became a full-time streamer on Twitch. With his professional background, he was vastly superior to regular players and other streamers, earning the reputation of a “human aimbot.”
shroud became known for his skill and was always considered an honest and ambitious player. He recently admitted to cheating in a game of Marvel Snap; apparently, he was immediately plagued by a guilty conscience.
It was probably an accident, but also not
How did shroud cheat? In a stream on November 28, shroud explained how he cheated to achieve a victory in the collectible card game Marvel Snap the day before by literally looking at another streamer’s cards.
shroud explained that his opponent in Marvel Snap had the abbreviation TTV in his name – which stands for Twitch.TV and indicated that the opponent was a streamer. This piqued shroud’s curiosity, and he wondered if his opponent was currently live streaming on Twitch.
shroud then watched his opponent’s stream and found that he was indeed streaming – allowing shroud to see his cards completely. However, the streamer emphasized that this was not intended:
I accidentally cheated yesterday. I admit it wasn’t really an accident. I kind of did it on purpose, but it wasn’t really intentional.
shroud quickly closed the stream after that. He was able to win the game, but he was plagued by guilt. shroud felt really bad after the incident.
I wanted to see if he was live, and he was live; I saw his hand. I should have left, dude. I should have left, but I had to win. I had to win.
However, shroud hurried to relativize the situation: The knowledge he gained in this way didn’t actually help him achieve victory in the end. He did see his opponent’s hand, but that was still pretty out of line.
Stream snipers are players who intentionally compete against streamers and gain an advantage by watching the stream simultaneously. This method is considered quite scummy and falls within the realm of cheating. It is therefore quite curious that a streamer like shroud found himself on the other side.
