The streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys is one of the most famous figures on Twitch. In a recent stream, the 25-year-old talks about how a former employee once cheated her out of a substantial sum and how she deals with it.
Who is Pokimane? The streamer is known for a wide range of content she showcases live on Twitch. This includes just chatting sessions as well as games. She often plays Valorant, a shooter where she ranks in the top 0.5% of players.
Her viewers appreciate her especially for her open and direct nature. Recently, she explained why people donate money to millionaires on Twitch.
However, she is also an entrepreneur with employees and staff. In a stream, she talked about her experiences as a boss.
Applicant for YouTube Manager position was incredibly convincing
Who is the employee? Pokimane does not mention a specific name, only that she hired the ex-employee as a YouTube manager in 2019. As such, he was supposed to manage the entire YouTube channel of the streamer, as Pokimane explains. This includes:
- Developing content ideas
- Managing all editors
- Meeting upload deadlines
In fact, the streamer already had two such managers. However, the new applicant was so convincing that she had to hire him. This turned out to be a mistake.
Why did Pokimane hire him? According to Pokimane, the employee presented an incredibly strong portfolio. His application was so good that she was completely sure:
“The guy wrote me MLA-formatted, freaking long paragraphs with things about things he would do. That was the most convincing thing I’ve ever read or seen. So I said: Okay. Let’s go.”
€7,100 monthly salary and damn good excuses
This is how much the employee received: In his application letter, the ex-manager demanded a whopping $8,000 (around €7,100) as monthly pay. Pokimane says that while this was a lot, she was willing to pay it.
For three months, she paid him, amounting to $24,000 or €21,393. However, he was not worth it, as she explains: “This guy generated less than $200 in value in the first month. No joke.”
Instead, he just kept sending her new documents with his plans. Pokimane even believed that he was actually trying hard. However, all documents are now private, so Pokimane can’t show them.
Why didn’t she end the relationship earlier? Pokimane explains that it took her a while to realize that she was being cheated. The ex-manager’s documents were extensive and convincing.
However, after one of those texts, she slowly began to notice that they were not written for her at all. She saw no successes, and the employee even once missed a week without excuse, supposedly because a family member was sick.
She thought he was collaborating with the other managers. Pokimane says: “He was so good at writing excuses and justifications.” In the end, the ex-manager even tried to negotiate. At that point, Pokimane finally ended the collaboration.
“I was his Sugar Mama”
This is how the streamer reacts: In the business relationship, she became colder and ceased unnecessary niceties to demand performance as it was lacking. Today, Pokimane reacts much more calmly to the situation.
She even laughs and explains: “I tell you, seriously: I was his Sugar Mama.”
Even before the story with her ex-manager, Pokimane talked about how she now handles problems. She says: “I care way less about things than I did three years ago. It’s really pleasant. I still care about important things, but not everything else.” This seems to be part of the process of growing up.
