The Twitch streamer and YouTuber Charles “Cr1TiKaL” White is known for his crude expressions, but with one song, he went so far that PlayStation has wanted nothing to do with him ever since.
Which streamer is being talked about? Charles White, known as Cr1TiKaL on Twitch and penguinz0 on YouTube, is a successful opinion blogger from the USA, who often uses a crude and downright repulsive imagery in his content – which probably cost him his dream partnership with PlayStation.
This CEO also showed how much an ill-considered action can impact a career:
A song cost the streamer two partnerships
What was the story? Cr1TiKaL revealed in January 2023 that a music video had cost him a major partnership. “Filthy” is a song that the streamer released together with singer-songwriter Troy Mckubre. The lyrics are extremely graphic, but so exaggerated that they lean more towards an absurdly funny direction.
The streamer himself describes the track as a “joke song” that is meant to be simply disgusting and repulsive. However, his potential partners apparently couldn’t laugh about it, because Cr1TiKaL reported back then about panicked messages. The cooperation was canceled at the last minute – as was any chance for future collaboration.
A little over 2 years later, the streamer now reveals that it was a planned collaboration with PlayStation, specifically with the survival horror Dead Space and the JRPG classic Final Fantasy.
Here you can listen to the story in the flowery language of the content creator:
Cr1TiKaL regrets this, as a deal with PlayStation would have been his absolute “dream partnership”, having grown up with their products. At the same time, he maintains that the reaction was overblown.
He did not speak ill of Sony in the song, and he was not even popular enough to pose a special risk for the brand. Nevertheless, they seemed to hate him at Sony so much that “not even the book from It Takes Two” could bring about reconciliation.
“Two years have passed now and it’s pretty clear that I will probably remain on the blacklist at PlayStation headquarters forever,” said the streamer. Just recently they were close to a deal with another PlayStation product, but at the last possible step, Sony blocked it.
However, “Filthy” cost Cr1TiKaL another partnership: his long-time partner, the energy manufacturer G Fuel, apparently wanted to use the incident as leverage for a new contract that would have left the streamer in a much worse position. However, as he says, he has moved on from that since the brand Gamer Supps is much better anyway.
Why is he speaking out now? According to Cr1TiKaL, he had hoped for two years that Sony would come to their senses and acknowledge that the song wasn’t such a big deal. However, he has since given up hope of being able to mend the relationship.
The story, according to the Twitch streamer, is so silly that he wanted to share it in full detail. Cr1TiKaL knows best that it is never too late to change one’s mind, as it took him a full 4 years to warm up to a popular anime: Streamer uses One Piece to fall asleep because it was so boring, after 4 years draws a new conclusion
