The American Tony “Lvndmark” is the most-watched Twitch streamer of the popular shooter Escape from Tarkov. For years, he has faced cheating allegations. Now he resorts to tape and a camera to prove his innocence.
What are the allegations about? Lvndmark has been actively streaming on Twitch since the end of 2019, primarily showcasing the tactical shooter Escape from Tarkov. With its growing popularity, the 28-year-old’s channel has also flourished.
He currently has over 1 million followers and averages around 10,500 viewers (via sullygnome). However, most of the streamer’s career has been overshadowed by cheating accusations. These allegations were already discussed in a 3-year-old Reddit thread (via reddit).
Indeed, Tarkov has a well-known cheating problem:
Streamer gets creative and shares his perspective
How does Lvndmark defend himself now? Most streamers show their main screen on Twitch and also their face via facecam. On March 1, Lvndmark took it a step further by attaching another camera to his forehead. This is supposed to capture his perspective and prove that he is not looking at any hidden monitor.
He took this unusual step after he ended his previous stream in annoyance over the allegations. The fashionable combination of webcam and tape was made from materials he already had on hand. The result is not only impractical but also looks delightfully silly, as the streamer indicated on Twitter:
In the comments, the streamer was already warned: Most critics still would not believe him. In his stream, the 28-year-old explained that he knows that with this action he probably won’t convince anyone, but it is funny nonetheless.
You can watch how it all went here:
“Without cheats, he plays better”
How is the action being received? Quite well. On Twitter, Lvndmark already received 6,000 likes for his creative solution, with a peak of just over 15,000 viewers for the associated stream, which was also quite successful.
The forehead cam method has already found some imitators. Reason enough for the “human aimbot” and shooter god, Michael “shroud” Grzesiek, to speak out: No evidence would ever be enough to convince some critics.
Streamers should rather continue doing their thing. The actual cheaters will ultimately still be caught.
What has the action brought? Aside from some laughs and a potential new Twitch meta, apparently not too much. In a thread that is probably not entirely serious on reddit, there is already discussion about whether Lvndmark would actually play much better without his cheats (via reddit).
Some jokesters on reddit point out that Lvndmark’s cheats cannot be seen because he would use vibrations. This refers to a cheating scandal that caused a stir in the chess world in 2022.
