Frederik “NoWay” Hinteregger (31) is the biggest streamer in Germany for League of Legends on Twitch. He was in Montpellier for Riot Games to comment on an important match in LoL. After the event, when he went out, he was robbed at gunpoint. The next day, the 31-year-old talks about how he views the robbery in hindsight. He regrets not having given up immediately.
This was the situation before the robbery:
The 31-year-old had just finished a live event in Montpellier, where he cast the finals of the European league LEC. After a long working day, everyone was quite tired and exhausted. Apparently, NoWay was out with his casting partner, teammate, and friend Tolkin.
NoWay recounts: After the finals, he freshened up briefly at the hotel and wanted to go eat something nearby. On the way back to the hotel, “two young gentlemen” jogged past them.
The Germans didn’t think anything of it. But the men had apparently waited for him afterward because they recognized his Rolex on his wrist. According to earlier reports, the Rolex was the “only valuable” thing the down-to-earth streamer had ever bought. It was said to have cost about €8,000.
“The adrenaline kicked in”
This was the robbery with the gun: The men approached him, held a gun to his head, and said they wanted the watch. The adrenaline kicked in for NoWay, and he tried to get away from the men. He received a blow to the head with the gun – the gun broke, and NoWay realized it was just a plastic toy.
But from then on, it only got worse: The men threw NoWay to the ground and struck his head. NoWay says he managed to break free:
Then they went to recruit. Their weapon was gone. They went a little to the right, up some stairs, and then they realized: Unfortunately, they still had a real weapon. And that was a large kitchen knife.
At the moment he saw the kitchen knife, NoWay gave up. He knew he had no chance. He is sure: “He would have stabbed me too.”
The man had already “poked” him, meaning he had indicated an attack in his direction. NoWay then took off the watch, held it for a moment, but when the next “poke” came, he let go of the luxury watch.
“Could have saved myself a lot of damage”
How does he see the robbery in hindsight? NoWay says he took a few blows to the head and had a bit of a headache, but he is doing well so far.
Ultimately, he says:
I lost the watch. But that’s it. That’s the story. That’s what happened. It was extremely stupid of me not to just give them the watch. I could have saved myself a lot of damage. And if the weapon had been real, it could have been even worse.

There is hope that the event will not traumatize him.
