The Twitch streamer Ludwig “ludwig” Ahgren is currently captivating tens of thousands of viewers with a new project. He runs an endless stream that accompanies him throughout his entire day – even while he sleeps. The viewers have an influence on how long he remains live.
What kind of stream is this? On the Twitch channel of ludwig, you can watch a stream that has been running for over 84 hours. The streamer showcases his entire life, and the viewers can decide how long the stream continues.
A timer is counting down in one corner, currently showing about 31 hours left. That’s how long ludwig will be online at least. The twist: each subscription adds ten seconds to the timer.
Who is ludwig? The streamer is known among other things as a commentator for Super Smash Bros. Melee and as a content creator, including for Among Us and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
He is known for doing crazy things. For example, just in February, he paid €43,000 to play with shroud. He announced his victory on Twitter saying, “I bought shroud!”
During the big Rust project on Twitch, ludwig was also involved. There, he spontaneously took on the role of the reporter, when shroud and xQc had a battle over the server.
Endless stream shows race car bed and brings in over $100,000
This is what makes the stream so special: ludwig takes you through his entire everyday life – from eating to working out in the garage to his stylish red race car bed. The only thing that remains private is going to the bathroom.
However, the streamer has even taken his chat into the shower with him, of course wearing swimming trunks to avoid violating the guidelines. All of this feels a bit like the Truman Show. Whenever you tune in, ludwig is live, and you can take part in his life.
While he sleeps, his moderators take over the stream and watch YouTube videos or similar with the chat. For ludwig, even that seems to work since even while he sleeps, subs come in, and he has even reached the top position on Twitch.
With this money, viewers get access to a special badge in the chat of the streamer and special emotes that can be used all over Twitch. Some streamers also use a “Sub Only” chat where only subscribers can participate.
This is how successful the project is: ludwig has worked his way to the top of Twitch with his endless stream. In the past three days, he has been the most-watched streamer by hours (via sullygnome). It’s amazing that he achieved this while sleeping – literally. He even states on Twitter: “I fell asleep on stream last night and am now the most-watched streamer on Twitch. What the hell is this?”
Due to the many subscribers alone, the stream is also financially worthwhile for him. In an initial overview of his “Subathon”, he shows that his total earnings after just over 70 hours already amount to over $100,000:
While he is not sure if he still has to deduct Twitch’s share, the number is still remarkable. Streaming seems to pay off if done correctly.
Some streamers also have the opportunity to earn more money through so-called “Bounties”. In November 2020, ludwig accidentally showed how much money can be earned with advertising on Twitch.
