The Twitch streamer Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm criticized Gears 5 harshly before its release. The series needs to die, that is just PR and bad gameplay. But suddenly he seems to like the third-person shooter and shows some amazing kills. He won a 1vs4.
This was DrDisrespect’s opinion on Gears 5: 2 weeks ago, just before the release of Gears 5, DrDisrespect stated:
“It’s time for the series to die. Let’s move away from Gears of War, okay? It just won’t bring in millions of players. It’s nothing special. It’s just AAA marketing and PR – there’s nothing else. The gameplay just doesn’t interest me.
If no one else is saying it, I’ll say it: Gears 5, don’t waste my time. It’s boring.”
However, Gears 5 received really good reviews from the press at launch, as you can see from the reviews on Metacritic for Gears 5.
DrDisrespect wins 1vs4 with a roar
Here is the current situation: DrDisrespect is now playing and streaming the cover shooter. Since Wednesday, September 11th, there have already been 4 streams in which he played Gears 5.
In a situation that is currently getting a lot of attention on Twitch, he manages to win a 1vs4.
To the cheers in the voice chat, DrDisrespect quickly takes out two opponents at close range at the beginning of the clip. He catches the third opponent rather by chance as he is about to retreat. Suddenly, it goes from a 4vs1 to a 1vs1.
During this, he appears highly focused.
Then, however, he falls behind and takes heavy damage. He then shouts to himself, “Stay by the wall,” takes down the last opponent, and erupts in a roar.
I like these terrible gameplay mechanics
What has changed: DrDisrespect explains his contradictory attitude towards Gears 5 by saying: The game has some terrible mechanics. But once you understand them, it would be really fun.
There is an acclimatization phase that hurts, but once that’s over, Gears 5 is probably exactly the game for the Doctor.
That Gears 5 would indeed gain millions of players, we know by now. Apparently, DrDisrespect was mistaken here. Although there is indeed a lot of marketing and PR behind it:
