The well-known Twitch streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is completely immersed in the new MMORPG Lost Ark. Despite his initial reluctance, he has now invested over 100 hours into the game – and according to his own statements, over 1,800 euros.
Who is the streamer?
- shroud is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch and was even number 1 for a while. Recently, he often played New World, a direct competitor to Lost Ark.
- In early February, the streamer explained why he would not play Lost Ark and later even referred to it as the “most boring game ever.”
- However, shortly thereafter he tried it and now can’t stop playing. He has apparently spent significantly more on the supposedly free game than expected.
How much has he spent? In one of his recent streams, shroud went through the expenses of his Steam account. Over the years, several payments had accumulated, but after the release of Lost Ark, they increased sharply.
At one point, he shows several transactions over 100 dollars and says: “Then Lost Ark happened.” He further explains: “That must be at least 2,000 dollars for Lost Ark. It has to be that much.”
He even received a timeout and can now buy nothing anymore. Just before, he already said that he had excluded himself from the game through his purchases. He has gone through the content so quickly that he hardly gets to the right activities. When asked why he is still playing the story, shroud replies: he must, because he simply has too many second characters (‘Alts’ or ‘Twinks’).
Pay2Win topic dominates discussion around Lost Ark
In Lost Ark, you can buy bonuses with premium currency such as the Crystalline Aura, which, among other things, makes travel cheaper and reduces the cooldown of certain spells. We explain to you on MeinMMO, what exactly the Lost Ark shop contains.
Since there are also items for purchase that allow you to resurrect yourself, Lost Ark often faces accusations of Pay2Win. While shroud and streamer colleague Asmongold defend the game, the discussion keeps coming up.
Apparently, players who pay are mainly arguing with those who play completely Free2Play. There is even a discussion about whether those who pay should be prioritized in the unpopular queues.
The topic polarizes and apparently there are pros and cons in both cases, as the considerable expenses of shroud show. Those who pay apparently do not always have an advantage in the long run. And Lost Ark can also be played excellently for free, as MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has already found out:
