For nearly 3 years, trainers in Pokémon GO have been able to reach a maximum level of 50. However, some players are already wishing for more levels. This could indicate that more levels are coming soon, which we have summarized here on MeinMMO.
Which levels are in question? In Pokémon GO, trainers can increase their own level and reach a maximum level of 50 since the end of 2020. Especially the first levels are particularly important, as the trainer level influences how high you can level up your monsters.
Even though our survey on level 50 showed a few days ago that only a quarter of the participants have reached the maximum level, some players are already looking for more. And this might not take too long. Below, we explain why.
What could speak for level 60?
Numerous XP bonuses: To level up in Pokémon GO, you mainly need one thing: lots of experience points. And Niantic is currently throwing these around, as can be seen from the current events and the content of the season Plenty of Adventures
.
For instance, during the two Paldea events at the beginning of September, you could secure quadruple XP while catching for a full 11 days. The Community Day with Mabula then brought you a threefold catch bonus.
During the Psychic event, there were also more experience points on curveball throws. And also for the current event Nothing but Out
, you receive three times the points for completing routes.
As a highlight of season 12, Niantic has also increased the number of gifts you can open per day to 40 and doubled the experience points for leveling up with your friends. So you receive 300,000 XP for becoming best friends if you use a lucky egg.
By completing the Master Ball study, you can secure an additional 100,000 XP if you finish it by November 21, 2023.
New features: In addition, since the last level expansion 3 years ago, numerous new features have been introduced in Pokémon GO, such as routes, showcases, and crypto raids.
While you only need experience points to level up for the first 40 levels, you have to complete additional tasks on the way to level 50. These tasks spread over various game functions and can be quite challenging.
However, the new features are not yet taken into account. So it is conceivable that these are planned for further levels.
What speaks against a level expansion
Too high requirements: The YouTuber Spieletrend has also dealt with this topic regarding level 60 and addresses the numerous XP bonuses in one of his recent videos. However, despite several arguments for a level expansion, he currently does not believe in it.
He explains in his video that many players might not reach a new maximum level. The requirements for level 50 are already enormous, and according to Spieletrend, these would become even harder with additional levels.
Maximum level in Pokémon: And also the maximum level of 100 for Pokémon in other games is not a definite indication for Spieletrend that there will soon be more levels in Pokémon GO.
In Pokémon GO, the level of individual monsters is not clearly recognizable but is tied to the trainer level up to level 31. From this level, XL candies can be collected, which allow you to push your monsters to the current maximum.
If you have previously pushed a monster to its maximum and then level up yourself, you can perform two additional power-ups on that Pokémon. According to Spieletrend, this could indicate that with trainer level 50, there are already 100 Pokémon levels in the game. If the developers orient themselves to this limit, this could also speak against a timely level expansion.
What do additional levels bring at all? While at the beginning, the trainer levels are still immediately linked to the Pokémon levels, making an increase important to push your own monsters for battle, this influence diminishes at higher levels.
However, those with a high level currently receive preferred access to new features. Otherwise, there are no further advantages, which is why a level increase for most players happens out of ambition, prestige, and a desire for challenges.

I would love it if one day the “Prestige mode” would come. Just press “Prestige” at level 50 and then you are level 1 Prestige 1. Moreover, with every Prestige, the Pokémon are simply strengthened by 5%

I could imagine that a trainer level expansion comes without being able to push the Pokémon further. This would create an incentive for top players without disadvantaging weaker players.

It could be possible, I thought the same yesterday that soon the level expansion to 60 would be possible because it is currently insane with the XP.
