For many trainers in Pokémon GO, the shiny monsters are particularly interesting and sought after. However, they are correspondingly rare. One trainer has had particularly good shiny luck and shares his catch on reddit. We at MeinMMO have looked into what exactly happened.
Which Pokémon are we talking about? In Pokémon GO, you have the opportunity to encounter not only the standard forms of many Pokémon but also their respective shiny variants. These shinies are special specimens that differ in appearance from the normal form.
These shiny Pokémon are very popular among many players, but they are also quite rare. According to statistics compiled by the community around the trainers of The Silph Road, the chance of encountering a shiny is about 1 in 500 in most cases (via thesilphroad.com).
But one trainer is now reporting a very special shiny luck in the reddit community. We looked at what happened and show it to you.
The Silph Road is a global community made up of trainers, dataminers, and Pokémon GO enthusiasts. They try to understand the game better, which is why they analyze certain processes, such as the shiny rate. They then make their results publicly available to other trainers.
“5 Shinys in less than 30 minutes”
Many trainers are eagerly awaiting the moment to click on a Pokémon and have it displayed as shiny. This was surely the case for the reddit user Harjot1807. On March 28, 2022, he had particularly good shiny luck while catching and shares his success with the reddit community.
In his post, he shows an excerpt from his diary. This lists the individual interactions that took place in the game, including the catch of a shiny. But the picture is surprising, as it does not list just a single shiny specimen, but directly 5 in a row.
Harjot1807 can apparently hardly believe his luck and writes, “5 Shinys in less than 30 minutes, my luck is insane.”
And indeed, such a catch is rather the exception in Pokémon GO. Only during special events, such as Community Day, when the shiny rate is increased, is it more likely to catch multiple shinies in a row, but even then, it mainly concerns the C-Day Pokémon.
Outside of such events, it is typically very much about luck. In Harjot1807’s case, several shiny monsters were caught, making the catch even more special. This is also reflected in the reactions of the reddit community.
The reddit community celebrates the shiny luck
Harjot1807’s post is really scoring points with the trainers in the reddit community. On March 29, 2022, at 10:50 a.m., he had already received 1,268 upvotes. And he is also celebrated for this shiny luck in the comments (via reddit.com):

- JohnnyQuit363: “Okay, this is really insane! Congratulations!”
- the_candyman91: “Damn, dude, this is crazy.”
- SubwooferKing: “The best I’ve achieved is about 6 in 4 hours during a grind without a CD.”
- BlueHairedDutchie: “Whenever I see a post like this, I immediately open my Pokémon GO hoping that I have as much luck. Then it takes months until I actually get a shiny.”
The reddit user Laytcn jokes in the meantime that Harjot1807 must have bought the shiny pin. What the shiny pin is and whether it can even be obtained in Pokémon GO is explained in our related article.
Other trainers, like add1ct3dd, have concerns that these shinies were not caught legally and that software assisted in the catching process, which is why they confront Harjot1807 about it in the comments. However, he assures that he played 100 percent legally and just had huge luck.
