In League of Legends, some changes will be introduced with the first season of 2025. A leading Twitch streamer for LoL is not pleased at all: He believes they remind too much of the Netflix series Arcane.
Who is this streamer? Marc “Caedrel” Roberts is the founder and coach of the LoL team Los Ratones, a kind of competitive content team consisting of professional players and influencers. He himself is also one of the largest streamers for the MOBA on Twitch (via SullyGnome).
In a stream on January 6, 2025, Caedrel criticized the changes that are supposed to come to LoL with Season 1 of 2025. He believes they are trying too hard to please the audience of the Netflix series Arcane.

Riot says the changes are for balancing
These changes are coming with Season 1: In a gameplay preview, Riot revealed in November what players can expect in 2025. This includes a revised ranked system, a new look for the Rift, and a changed teleport.
Instead of being transported to the desired target in the blink of an eye, the teleport will now visibly transport players across the map. According to Riot, this does not feel as bad as nerfing the cooldown or range and brings the ability into a “healthier” position to ensure long-term balancing in the game.
“Feels forced”
What bothers the streamer? However, Caedrel believes that the planned change has completely different reasons: “The new teleport is damn awful. I hate it. It feels like it was forced for Arcane. It feels like they are forcing this whole TP change for the series.”
The concerns of players like Caedrel can be summarized as: Riot could be changing LoL to meet the expectations of new players coming from Arcane. This was recently criticized during the rework of the champion Viktor. Players even demanded refunds.
The streamer believes: “Of course, they are targeting the audience of Arcane because they come from the series to play the game. Sure, you can buff all heroes from Arcane, but this hexgate TP crap is so dumb.”
The new look of the map also displeases the streamer, who thinks it looks simply terrible.
We can expect to learn how the changes will affect gameplay and what the broader player base has to say on January 9, 2025, when patch 25.S1.1 goes live.
The strategy to attract new players to League of Legends through Netflix series like Arcane was recently described by Bloomberg magazine as a failure. However, the CEO did not take this assessment well. LoL: An important business magazine calls the Netflix series Arcane a financial flop – The CEO is furious
