Sony wanted to introduce the PS5 at GDC 2020
Many speculations about possible reveal date: Many are already wondering for quite some time when Sony will finally introduce the PS5 or at least disclose further information on details like price or hardware specs.
Recently, numerous analyses and rumors have caused further unrest and speculation, according to which the release of the PlayStation 5 could be delayed due to the Corona virus – even beyond the year 2020.
But it seems that Sony wanted to introduce the PS5 regularly in mid-March anyway.
The timing was apparently planned: As the tweet from the official Japanese PlayStation account suggests, the stream apparently remains at the originally planned time for the information reveal. Only the format has changed.
The tweet reveals more details about the reveal event. It says that today’s stream will show “a planned session at the Game Developers Conference in the United States.” The stream will only be available in English and will not provide subtitles.
It becomes clear that new information about the PS5 as well as possibly the PlayStation 5 itself was apparently planned to be presented at the GDC 2020.
The Game Developers Conference is an annual event for video game developers held in the USA. Originally, GDC 2020 was supposed to take place from March 16th to March 20th, so this week. However, the event has been postponed to “late summer” due to the effects of the Corona virus.
Due to the presentation method, Sony had to change plans: At GDC, the PS5 would have been presented to a large audience. However, due to the postponement, the company, like many other participants, had to adjust its plans. While the planned timeframe for the presentation remains, the event, likely the PlayStation 5 reveal, will now only be held as a live stream.
Some may be disappointed that the GDC is not taking place as planned – after all, it is said that some developers will not present any new products there. However, many PlayStation fans may not really mind. Most would just be glad to finally receive further information about Sony’s new console.
