Today, on March 18, a special raid hour for Mega Pokémon begins in Pokémon GO. We will show you what is happening and tell you whether you should join.
What kind of raid hour is this? Normally, there is only one raid hour each week on Wednesday. However, this time there was already an unscheduled raid hour on Monday, and there is also such an event today, on Thursday.
This time, however, Mega Pokémon are the focus. They will appear more frequently at the gyms for an hour, and you can replenish your Mega energies.
All info and counters for the Mega Raid Hour
When does the Mega Raid Hour run? It starts at 6:00 PM local time. For one hour, the Mega Raids will appear at numerous gyms. The event ends at 7:00 PM, and the Mega Raids will not appear as frequently afterwards.
Which Mega Raids are available? Currently, there are exactly 3 Mega Raid bosses available, including:
- Mega-Voltenso
- Mega-Hundemon
- Mega-Rexblisar
All 3 Pokémon can also be caught as Shiny after the raid. However, they can only be caught in their normal versions. You will battle the Mega Pokémon and then catch the normal version of the monster.
Mega Pokémon are strong Pokémon that all possess better stats than their normal evolutions. They are especially useful for raids, as you can use strong attackers there.
Which counters should be used? For that, we look at each Mega Pokémon individually, as they have different strengths and weaknesses.
Mega-Voltenso is only weak against Ground type. The best counters against it are:
- Rihornior with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Knakrack with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
Mega-Hundemon is weak against Water, Fighting, Ground, and Rock types. The best counters are:
- Kyogre with Cascade and Surf
- Rihornior with Mud Shot and Earthquake
- Meistagrif with Counter and Dynamic Punch
Mega-Rexblisar is weak against Fighting, Poison, Flying, Bug, Rock, and Steel types. It even has a double weakness to Fire type. The best counters are:
- Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat
- Flampivian with Fire Fang and Overheat
- Skelabra with Fire Spin and Overheat
How many players are needed? If you want to do all the Mega Raids, you need at least 3 players. However, we recommend forming a team of 5 trainers for the raid hour. This way, you can fight faster and complete more Mega Raids overall.
Due to current corona restrictions, we recommend inviting some trainers for remote raids.
Is the raid hour worth it? Depending on your play style, the Mega Hour can be quite useful. If you regularly battle with a Mega Pokémon, then you should participate. All 3 Mega Pokémon are solid attackers and will pay off in battle later.
You can therefore diligently gather energy through the Mega Raids, so you can later conduct your Mega Evolutions in other raids.
Additionally, all 3 raid bosses will be available as Shiny afterwards. So perhaps you will be lucky and catch a Shiny during the raid hour.
