In the upcoming MMORPG Throne and Liberty by NCSoft, the weather has a strong influence on you. It even changes some skills. We at MeinMMO summarize how the weather system works.
In Throne and Liberty, the sun can shine, rain can pour down, and wind can blow from different directions. All of this affects your gameplay and the environment – monsters, dungeons, your skills, and even the surroundings change as a result.
The weather is not predictable; for example, you can be surprised by sudden rain. The developers, NCSoft, want players to adapt to their environment in Throne and Liberty, understand it, and use it to their advantage, as explained in the Director’s Preview on the MMORPG’s website.
The weather can suddenly change everything
The ratio of sunny to rainy weather is said to be 8/2. When it rains, it should stay that way for at least 30 minutes (via Throne and Liberty News/Youtube). Players should also be able to read the wind strength in the user interface.
This is how the weather is supposed to influence your game:
- Influence on your skills – For example, if you carry the staff and generate lightning, they behave differently in the rain. The electricity interacts with the rainwater and hits multiple enemies instead of just one.
- Firearms deal more damage and can shoot further when you have the wind at your back.
- In the rain, lower parts of the environment fill with water. This can affect PvP battles, as you can no longer fight there, but must swim instead.
- Bosses drop different items depending on the weather.
- Plant bosses have stronger regeneration in the rain.

Different conditions at night
There is also a day and night cycle. One cycle lasts 5 hours, 4 of which are day and one is night. Therefore, you can plan better than with the weather situations.
The developers are said to have chosen the 5-hour cycle so that players who log in at the same time every day do not always catch the same in-game time. So, if you only play for one hour a day and do it at the same time, you are not always just wandering in the dark.
At night, some things in the environment are supposed to change as well. For example, there is said to be a werewolf boss that you meet during the day in human form and at night as a wolf. You must defeat both in different ways and receive different drops.
