The release of the big MMORPG hope Throne and Liberty has been postponed again. More and more fans are slowly losing interest in the game. What is the reason for this?
At the latest in June 2023, Throne and Liberty was supposed to be released. Now the developers NCSoft announced that the MMORPG has been postponed to October 2023.
The reason for this is said to be the release of Diablo 4, with which they do not want to compete. In May 2023, instead of the release, further closed beta tests will take place in Korea and North America.
Players’ anticipation is fading more and more
When MeinMMO asked you at the beginning of the year which upcoming MMORPG you are most looking forward to, the answer was clear: Throne and Liberty. Then some info leaked from the beta that was actually under NDA.
It was not allowed to talk about it, but some Redditors did it anyway. They expressed strong criticisms:
- Players can simply kill each other at night, there is no karma system
- Rigid tab targeting in the combat system. With most abilities, you are not supposed to be able to move while executing them.
- There is supposed to be autoplay
- The story is said to be more of a summary of events and generally very fragmented
- There is said to be strong pay-to-win regarding skins
Of course, positive aspects like the graphics and the extensive weather system continue to make players look forward to it. But since the information surfaced, some have been disappointed.
Looking at the comments under the MeinMMO articles about Throne and Liberty, it becomes clear that even our community is increasingly less impressed by the MMORPG. We summarize some of the voices:
- Leyaa: “T&L just screams ‘Keep your hands off me!’ All the Bad Habits known from Korean MMOs are united here in an MMORPG. How they come to think T&L supposedly orients itself towards the West is completely unclear to me based on the current information situation.”
- Tronic48: “If everything that has been read/heard is true, and it comes out that way, they can postpone T&L indefinitely as far as I’m concerned.”
- Higi: “Doesn’t matter, I’ve heard too much negative and I’m busy enough with Diablo 4. Let them postpone it, but I don’t believe that anyone is looking forward to it anymore.”
- Myuu79: “I think most people are not that excited anymore, as more and more negative aspects of the game have leaked.”
Postponed once again shortly before release in 2017
Already in 2017, Throne and Liberty, then still known as “Lineage Eternal”, was close to a release. The MMORPG was then pulled back and significantly reworked: At that time, the developers switched, among other things, to Unreal Engine 4.
Back then, the game was obviously postponed due to another game: With the mobile MMORPG LineageM, NCSoft earned so much money that they no longer rushed for a release of Lineage Eternal.
So anyone who has been waiting for the release of Throne and Liberty for a full 6 years may not be surprised anymore.
