In Throne and Liberty, the runes were introduced with the new update. MeinMMO tells you everything you need to know about the new item.
What are runes? Runes are an enhancement for your equipment. They come in different rarities and versions. You can place them on your weapons and jewelry to gain additional stats. Furthermore, there are certain synergies between different runes.
To place a rune on your equipment, you first need to unlock the slot with Sollant. Be sure that the slot matches the type of your rune. MeinMMO explains how the runes work exactly.

Overview of Runes
The different versions of runes: With the new update, runes were introduced. These can only be placed on epic weapons or jewelry. However, it is not possible to place runes on armor. Runes have different effects that enhance your equipment when placed on it.
In your inventory, there is an extra tab at the top of your bag for runes. There you can collect up to 100 runes – your normal inventory will not be affected.
There are currently three different runes in the game:
- Red runes are attack runes
- Blue runes are defense runes
- Yellow runes are support runes
These are also classified into categories:
- Weapon runes
- Necklace runes
- Bracelet runes
- Ring runes
- Belt runes
The runes currently appear in three different rarities:
- White
- Green
- Blue
In Korea, there is also a purple rarity, which will probably only be introduced to us later. Currently, it is unknown when exactly, but it could coincide with T2 gear or T3 dungeons. As with armor, white is the weakest and purple is the strongest. Blue runes currently have the best stats for us.
How to get runes?
Obtaining runes: There are various ways to obtain runes. The most effective method is cooperative dungeons: Dimension Test. However, you need the appropriate combat power to participate there. The great advantage is that you do not have to spend any tokens for the reward. Here is a list of all rune sources:

How to craft runes?
Crafting runes: It is also possible to craft probability chests for runes. For this, you need rune fragments that you obtain when you dismantle runes you own. Additionally, depending on which variant (attack, defense, or support) you want to craft, you need the appropriate ore, which you can collect in open-world dungeons, for example.
Then, you must go to a manufacturer in Castle Rockwatch. There you’ll find the probability chests under the material bag and can craft these with the materials you have earned. From these chests, you can obtain the respective runes of different rarities.
How to unlock a rune slot?
Unlocking rune slots: You can unlock runes under the new rune management button in the bottom bar of the inventory. There, you may add up to three runes to your epic equipment, but the slots must first be unlocked with Sollant. If you click on the slot, a selection window opens:
- For attack-type runes, you must unlock the red slot
- For defense-type runes, you must unlock the blue slot
- For support-type runes, you must unlock the yellow slot
This means that you must always unlock the slot according to the type of the rune. For example, you cannot place a defense rune in a red slot. However, you can continually change the slots with the reset button, but you must spend Sollant to unlock each time again.
You can also remove the rune from the slot for free. So if you have opened a blue slot once, you can switch defense runes at will.
Tip: It is important to know that once the slots have been opened, the equipment parts are no longer tradeable.
How does rune synergy work?
Rune synergy: It is crucial that you can change the rune slot at any time since the order of the slots is important and makes a big difference. This way, you gain certain rune synergies.
If you maintain a special order of the rune slots, you activate a rune synergy that grants you additional stats. You can also view the six different synergies of the respective rarities in the rune synergy list, which you can find in the rune management.
The following six different synergies are very useful:
Weapon synergies
- Red, Blue, Yellow: Strength, Critical hit damage reduction
- Red, Yellow, Blue: Dexterity, Attack speed
- Blue, Yellow, Red: Wisdom, Debuff duration
- Blue, Red, Yellow: Perception, Shield block penetration chance
Necklace synergies
- Red, Yellow, Blue: Dexterity, Attack speed
- Blue, Yellow, Red: Wisdom, Debuff duration
- Red, Yellow, Blue: Dexterity, Attack speed
- Red, Blue, Yellow: Strength, Critical hit damage reduction
Bracelet synergies
- Yellow, Red, Blue: Additional damage, Boss additional damage
- Red, Yellow, Blue: Dexterity, Attack speed
- Blue, Red, Yellow: Perception, Shield block penetration chance
Ring synergies
- Red, Blue, Yellow: Strength, Critical hit damage reduction
- Blue, Red, Yellow: Perception, Shield block penetration chance
Belt synergies
- Red, Blue, Yellow: Strength, Critical hit damage reduction
- Yellow, Blue, Red: Damage reduction, Boss damage reduction
Ultimately, it is of course up to you which synergy you prefer for your personal playstyle. However, we wanted to give you a little support. It is also possible to play without a synergy and for example equip three attack runes, but then you forgo the extra value of the synergy.
Note: For the synergies, there are – like with the runes – four different rarities; White, Green, Blue, Purple. The synergy is always determined by the rune whose value has the lowest rarity.
If you want to create a blue synergy, you must equip three runes of blue rarity. If one of them has, for example, a white rarity, you will only receive a white synergy.
Since we do not yet have purple runes, we cannot yet obtain purple synergies, even though these are already displayed under the rune synergy list in the game.
How to level runes?
Leveling runes: Attack runes, defense runes, and support runes each have a chance to gain a value when obtained, which is randomly rolled. The three different rune types have their own value pool. These values can then be leveled up.
To level a rune, you must obtain another rune with the same value. The rarity does not matter. The maximum level of blue runes is currently level 60.
For example, you might find a level-1 attack rune with critical hit chance (weapon). If you later obtain another attack rune with critical hit chance (weapon), regardless of rarity, there is a chance that your first rune will automatically be upgraded to level 2. The upgrade is therefore not guaranteed, but you have a chance to skip some levels. However, it must be the exact same rune with the same value to increase the level.
With each level, however, the effort increases: The chance to improve a rune by finding it again decreases the higher the level is. However, the rune levels are linked to your account. This means that your leveling progress will not be lost even if you dismantle a high-level rune.
