With the new expansion Wilderness of Talandre, the developers of Throne and Liberty aim to bring new momentum to the MMORPG. Specifically, content for solo players and PvP is the focus.
How is Throne and Liberty doing? Throne and Liberty has lost a large majority of its players more than four months after its release. The MMORPG can only attract about 35,000 – 40,000 players at peak times. At launch, there were still over 335,000 (via SteamDB).
The ratings of the MMORPG on Steam also paint a negative picture. While only 68% of players liked the MMORPG from the beginning, this number decreased to 61% in recent reviews.
One example: User Zoe, with over 1,000 hours of gameplay, writes in a review on Steam about the fear of missing out if one does not play every day, an addictive design, and that the MMORPG has eventually turned into a second job. Almost 200 players find the review helpful.
With the new expansion “Wilderness of Talandre,” the developers want to revive the MMORPG and attract both new and returning players. To achieve this, they have devised two new main features that they are now presenting.
Throne and Liberty has already lost most players in the first two months:
What kind of content is that? In a new video on the YouTube channel of Throne and Liberty, the developers talked about the upcoming expansion “Wilderness of Talandre.” Publishing Partner Producer “godspeed” has already introduced the two most important features.
The new expansion will introduce 4 solo player dungeons into the MMORPG. They are primarily aimed at solo players and those who have little experience with the genre. These dungeons are meant to serve as a kind of practice to prepare players for more difficult challenges.
To ensure that players can master the challenge alone, there will be various buffs in the dungeons that players can collect to succeed as a healer, DD, or tank on their own.
What else was presented? The second pillar of content revolves around PvP, which plays an important role in Throne and Liberty. In addition to castle sieges, there are currently PvP activities in the game almost every hour that can reward players or fall into others’ hands if one does not participate.
This will also remain an important aspect of Throne and Liberty in the new expansion. The regular player base can look forward to the “Nebula Island” in the new expansion. A cross-server PvP area for level 55, consisting of 5 zones. While one zone is always at peace, PvP is enabled everywhere else.
The zones offer different events, open-world bosses, and other activities that grant a new currency called “Nebula Stones.” This currency can be exchanged for items and also provides access to the new accessory system, which will be explained in detail at a later time.
Otherwise, players can expect a new battle pass with new emotes, cosmetic items, and a new weapon set, as well as balance and system changes for the MMORPG.
Whether Throne and Liberty can reclaim a part of its player base with solo dungeon content aimed more at beginners and returners, along with new content that requires a lot of PvP, is questionable. The developers seem not to be directly addressing the core problems identified by players: Players cite two reasons why Amazon Games’ new MMORPG is much worse than it could be
