So far, the development team at NCsoft has only released their MMORPG Throne and Liberty in South Korea. However, it seems that the game is not generating the numbers the developers had expected in that country.
What is the problem? In a meeting regarding the current financial report, NCsoft executives were asked whether the global release of Throne and Liberty would be affected by the low player counts.
While NCsoft confirmed that the MMORPG is still scheduled to be released this year, the game is currently falling short of expectations. There are several reasons for this:
- the difficulty level of the content
- the user-friendliness
- the quality-of-life features
- the balancing in PvE
All these issues have contributed to the game not meeting the expectations players had of it. This explains the numbers that have fallen short of expectations.

What does NCsoft think about it? The team remains hopeful. The developers have responded very well to the needs of the users and made many optimizations. Therefore, player numbers are currently expected to recover.

We are pleased to report that the metrics are improving. We believed that it was important for TL to create new metrics and performances abroad, and we still believe that.
The executives therefore believe that Throne and Liberty can meet the expectations of players in the West. Additionally, NCsoft is relying on the marketing by Amazon Games. The publisher is responsible for the release in the rest of the world and thus decides when the MMORPG will come to us.
Furthermore, a large-scale user test is being planned. Amazon Games is supposed to handle the specific plans and will likely announce in the future when players outside of South Korea can first try out Throne and Liberty.
