The MMORPG planned for 2023 Throne and Liberty has revealed new details about the class system, PvP, and the game world in a video.
What is Throne and Liberty? Throne and Liberty is considered the largest MMORPG scheduled for release in 2023 and is seen as a great hope of the genre. It is being developed by the Korean studio NCSoft, which also produced Aion, Blade & Soul, and Lineage.
The release was originally planned for 2022, but there were issues with a Western partner for the game, which led to its postponement to 2023. The release is planned for PC and console.
Where do the new infos come from? In a 10-minute video, the developers of Throne and Liberty discussed the MMORPG. They specifically addressed the class system, PvP, and game world.

Now, Design Director Lee Moon Sub revealed further details about the combinations of weapons:
Instead of being limited to a class defined by the game, players can adapt their weapons to the situation. Two different weapon types can be combined, and switching between them allows you to maximize strength.
This enables strategies to offset potential weaknesses. If players find themselves in a pinch, each weapon type offers defensive actions that can protect at the right moment.
Lee Moon Sub also mentioned that the developers are very proud of the free class system of Throne and Liberty, as players experience the joy of combining and configuring by linking the abilities of individual weapons.
Players Decide Whether to Play PvP
What do the developers say about PvP? According to Design Director Lee Moon Sub, players in Throne and Liberty are free to choose whether or not to participate in PvP battles.
This should always make it clear, no matter where you are on the map, which PvP events and competitions are planned. This is intended to allow for strategic gameplay and to prevent players from unexpectedly finding themselves in PvP situations.
The competitions in Throne and Liberty are also supposed to be based on the backgrounds of the individual regions within the MMORPG and take place regionally. Players compete against each other for about 20 minutes with the goal of climbing a leaderboard.
Additionally, there are supposed to be guild wars, in which players fight for the acquisition of so-called “stones of ownership.” These battles are expected to require preparation and strategy, making the construction of a defensive zone potentially sensible. The guild that obtains one of the coveted stones benefits from enhanced abilities and the acquisition of necessary resources.
The Game World Offers Environmental Influences and Limitless Freedom
What do the developers say about the game world? The game world of the MMORPG will feature various weather and environmental influences with visual effects. These are intended to interact with players like organic beings, create a living world, and offer players a variety of opportunities.
This way, an ecosystem can change or a terrain may feel different depending on the situation. There will be predictable events such as a day-night cycle that allows you to plan and unpredictable influences like changeable weather, to which you must adapt as players.
Furthermore, the developers of Throne and Liberty refer to the game world as boundless freedom, which is also reflected in the word “Liberty” in the game title. The video states: “Liberty stands for the freedom to plunge into adventures in the game world.”
This freedom is one of the pillars of the MMORPG’s world and is meant to help people form connections.
Ultimately, the exchange with others, the creation of communities, and the discovery of oneself is the essence of an MMO, according to NCSoft. Players are meant to share memories and experiences with each other.
