The MMORPG Throne and Liberty is set to be released in the West in 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Amazon is bringing the online role-playing game to the West; it has been running in South Korea since 2023. Now, in April 2024, a beta test is taking place that is supposed to be confidential. However, players are talking about it.
What kind of test is this?
- This is a closed beta test for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It started on April 10 at 10 PM and ends on April 17, 2024.
- The test focuses on combat, economy, and player progression. Every day, there is a special event in the evening, a castle siege or a world boss.
- The test is supposed to be secret, and players have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) – that’s why there won’t be much video material. Nevertheless, players are talking about the test.
“True MMORPG” and “Next Gen”
What do the players say? Although everything is strictly confidential, there is a thread on reddit with 142 comments about Throne and Liberty. Some users express their thoughts who are clearly logging into the game for the first time.
In the opening post, the MMORPG is primarily seen as direct competition to the Western MMORPG Ashes of Creation:
Above all, the graphics and animations of the game are praised. Several players say that this is finally a “next-gen” MMORPG. The graphics blew them away:
The biggest advantage of Throne and Liberty is that it looks stunning and runs really well. For me, it’s the most beautiful MMO on the market; it’s also a true MMORPG with an open, seamless game world filled with many players, which feels good after many titles that focused on a game with many instances.
Another player finds it great that you can teleport back to the village seamlessly.
What do others say? Not everyone is so enthusiastic.
Among the milder critics is a user who says: The game looks great, but he doesn’t like the controls. It feels like wrestling with a slippery cat.
Others let their veteran status show and say: The thread creator will soon take a look around when he realizes how boring the game becomes.
Others say: The developers need to dial back the microtransactions.
The harshest criticism states: This is “Korean garbage” that looks nice but is not fun to play, designed to empty your wallet.
The story behind it: So a high level of enthusiasm doesn’t quite match the reaction that Throne and Liberty is currently receiving in South Korea. There, the game is considered problematic. At a developers’ conference, the bosses of NCSoft were pressured regarding the current state of their company, that they even had to announce Guild Wars 3.
The developers are working on the game, though.
At least there’s good news that the game looks good and runs well.
Throne and Liberty will likely be the biggest new MMORPG of 2024, despite all criticism, and many will try it out. Not least because it is coming out for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
It is to be hoped that Amazon will soon give us the opportunity to see the game for ourselves and perhaps without an NDA.
