In the January issue of “Tico Talks”, Globalization Design Manager Daniel Lafuente spoke about the future of Throne and Liberty. Many players celebrated Amazon Games’ plans afterward.
What was discussed in “Tico Talks”? In the new video, Daniel Lafuente primarily addressed the major challenges of Throne and Liberty, such as the dwindling player base and the call from many players for server merges. Specifically, the Globalization Design Manager announced (via YouTube):
- Server merges are planned and will be carried out in several stages. During the merge of the worlds, entirely new servers will be created. It will not be the case that one server “swallows” another. This week, there will be a separate article with all the details on the merges.
- The developers plan fundamental changes to the combat mechanics. Movement and control should feel smoother, and targeting enemies should feel more natural. Extensive testing rounds are planned before the improvements go live.
- Field bosses are expected to shift from an open-world format to a guild-vs-guild format to make competition among communities fairer and more rewarding. More details on this will be available in February.
- Fans of the MMORPG can look forward to the first expansion of Throne and Liberty called Talandre soon. As part of the free content update, combat enhancements, Tier-2 equipment, and a new mastery system for weapons will also be introduced. More information will be available on January 28.
- The developers are planning measures to combat toxic behavior from players in the cooperative dungeons. Improved inventory management and more options to enhance characters are also expected.
- This week, UI improvements are expected to go live. Console players will receive the promised support for mouse and keyboard on February 6. Adjustments to rewards for various content, such as dungeons, will be released this week and next week. Further improvements for Abyss dungeons are planned.
Throne and Liberty is struggling with declining player numbers:
Clear communication, too little new content
How does the community evaluate the announcements? Many players appreciate Daniel Lafuente’s clear communication and the planned improvements. At the same time, there is criticism because there will be no new content for the MMORPG in the short term.
- tomekkjaworski1945 makes a metaphor on YouTube: “I honor Tico’s bravery in standing in front of a hungry horde for 10 minutes and telling them he brought nothing to eat!”
- xXMarkgovXx praises Amazon Games’ communication on Reddit: “The game’s response to feedback is impressive, and Tico is the GOAT.” Note from the editorial team: GOAT stands for “Greatest of All Time”.
- Caekie is also excited on Reddit: “The fact that they even consider feedback on Reddit, Discord, and their player surveys and are REALLY responding to it is crazy to me. No other major MMO publisher would ever do that.”
- Choowkee expresses slight criticism on Reddit: “My only real complaint is that the weapon mastery has been postponed until Talandre. That means there will be no new content until then.”
What was not commented on in the new edition of “Tico Talks” are the recent analyses from the community as to why Amazon Games’ and NCSoft’s MMORPG cannot fully realize its great potential: Players cite two reasons why Throne and Liberty is much worse than it could be
