In a subreddit, it was pointed out that monster groups drop certain items in Diablo 4. According to maxroll.gg, enemies not only have individual personalities and combat styles, but there is also a chance for specific items that they drop when killed.
Monsters and their Loot Drops
What loot can I target? These are the monster families and their drops:
- Bandits (Bandits)
- primarily found in Kehjistan & Dry Steppes
- Brawlers, Sharpshooters, Throat Splitters
- have no special abilities
- Loot: Daggers, Maces
- Beasts (Beasts)
- Scosglen & Shattered Peaks
- Bears, Werewolves, Woodland Spirits (trees that attack you)
- Fire Wolves can turn invisible
- Loot: Chests, Crossbows, Swords
- Cannibals (Cannibals)
- primarily found in the Dry Steppes
- fight with swords & axes
- Loot: 2H Axes, Axes, Helms
- Cultists (Cultists)
- Hawezar & Kehjistan
- identified by red hoods and death masks
- perform rituals, summon other monsters
- fight with knives & fireballs
- Loot: Daggers, Helms
- Drowned (Drowned)
- found on all coasts
- possessed by statues and bells
(if you see a large bell, the Drowned are not far) - fight with melee weapons & water magic

- shoot poison, throw acid bombs, bite
- Loot: 2H Polearms, Swords
- Spiders (Spiders)
- Dry Steppes, but primarily dungeons/basements
- throw webs that immobilize you
- parasitic spider hosts “throw” multiple spiders when killed
- Loot: Chests, Focus, Gloves, 2H Swords
- Vampires (Vampires)

It is recommended to go loot in dungeons, as the spawn rate of monsters and elite opponents is often higher than in the open world. You can increase the chance of certain items by exploring different dungeons in the corresponding region.

Other Opportunities: Oboluses and Whispering Tree
What do I do with Oboluses? To obtain “Whispering Oboluses”, you must complete public events in Sanctuary. You can then use these as currency at the Curiosity Merchant to gamble for specific items.
You can choose between equipment items, weapons, and Whispering Keys. With the keys you can open silent chests that you find in the open world.
We reported on the 70-year-old player who shares tips on proper Obolus gambling. In a subreddit for Diablo 4, another player has now mentioned another way to optimally use their Oboluses.
How can I strategically use Oboluses? To increase the chance of a specific item, u/Prowner1 developed a gambling tool to calculate the optimal Obol usage.
With this, you can determine which object to focus on at the Curiosity Merchant to obtain the desired legendary aspects.

Alternatively, you can use the bounty system of the Whispering Tree. You will receive quests to fulfill in the world – find corpses and kill minibosses, clear basements, kill groups of enemies.
What do I get from the Whispering Tree? Once you have accumulated 10 points, you can exchange them at the Whispering Tree for a loot box. The boxes belong to specific equipment groups. Additionally, there are “Chaos Collections” that contain a colorful mix of equipment items.
The loot feature has already impressed in The Division 2 and can make loot-based games significantly better.
