In FIFA 20, there are the first reactions to the career mode changes. Many fans are satisfied, while others express criticism. One change is especially well received.
This is what it’s about: Yesterday, on August 7th, EA Sports unveiled the most important innovations in the career mode of FIFA 20. These include a
- comprehensive manager customization,
- a new morale management
- and a dynamic player potential.
We present all career innovations here in detail in German.
For many players, the career mode represents the most important mode in FIFA, which is why they were eagerly awaiting the new information about the FIFA 20 career. These should decisively influence their purchasing decisions. And after the career information took a long time to arrive, with expectations rising in the meantime, many fans reacted with: “What, is that all?”

“So much money for a new UI color”
This is what is criticized about the career changes: On reddit and in the comment sections on social media, thousands of players have already expressed their first opinions. The biggest criticism is that fans expected more. The scope of the innovations seems rather limited so far.
“To be honest, the career mode needs a complete overhaul. Hundreds of changes are necessary. I think it could be something fantastic, but…”, writes one user, referring to the fact that EA Sports has invested almost all resources into FUT for years while the career mode has been neglected.
On reddit, one user criticizes that EA Sports demands full price for a game that has only repainted the user interface color in career mode. He points to this image that EA Sports showed:
Other users agree: “Yes, the innovations are so disappointing” or “These features are unnecessary.”
Many fans also list innovations they would have preferred, such as an online career mode or finally realistic work with sponsors. We have summarized many career wishes here.
Some comments criticizing the new manager customization for allowing the selection of a woman for the first time were quite ugly. Corey Andress, the Community Global Franchise Lead, commented on Twitter about this. Some comments are “quite disgusting,” he writes, adding that these will be immediately blocked.

And one user jibes that he can hardly wait to play with Piemonte Calcio in career mode. This is a reference to the fact that Konami secured exclusive rights to Juventus Turin, forcing EA Sports to rename the club to FIFA 20 in Piemonte Calcio.
In the comments under our article about the career changes, there are also critical remarks:
- Koro. writes that unfortunately, nothing groundbreaking is included again and that they didn’t listen to the community.
- Vorstopper also writes that there is so much more possible.
- And Chiefryddmz jokes: “I’m slowly realizing why they held these innovations back for so long.”
However, alongside this criticism, there is also a lot of praise. On reddit, the top comments are even mostly positive. Especially one change is well received.

“The dynamic potential will make the career unique”
This change is celebrated: The dynamic potential is particularly well received. It means: The better a talent plays on the pitch, the higher its potential can grow. However, if the talent plays poorly or does not get match practice, the potential decreases. This way, you can achieve a higher potential and therefore a higher overall rating for your talents through good performances.
Fans are excited that this innovation can make the career unique. Because now, you don’t have to choose the usual talents with the highest potential that everyone else takes, but you can develop your own star players.
Some users write that this is the only interesting innovation. The manager customization might be interesting for 10 minutes, and the new press conferences will likely become rather boring and repetitive over time, they speculate.
In contrast, with the dynamic potential, you have a feature with which you can consistently bring new talents into the limelight, which is definitely a good innovation.

It’s not that bad – is it?
Additionally, some players emphasize that EA Sports has definitely listened to the community with these features. Manager customizations and a comprehensive morale system were high on many wish lists. And just because many wishes did not come true, one should not belittle these innovations.
Finally, some joke that one must be satisfied that there are at least notable innovations in the career mode. This was not a given in the last few FIFA years.
In the MeinMMO comments, there are also positive voices:
- Psycheater writes: “Yes, cool, it sounds really good with the improvements.”
- And Manuel6584 believes that it is fundamentally an interesting expansion. But he hopes that this isn’t all.
