10 Quick Tips for the Launch from the Community
What kind of tips are these? On reddit – straight from the community – 10 tips for new agents have been compiled. These tips are intended to help you acclimate to The Division 2 and get used to the agent life:
- Take your time. Don’t rush through the content, don’t skip cutscenes. The Division 2 offers an intense experience in the post-apocalypse. The atmosphere was already praised in The Division 1. Soak it up in part 2 too!
- Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the character menu and discover what you can customize. You should get acquainted with it early in the game. In the endgame, everything revolves around knowing and optimizing the mechanics.
- Try different weapons, don’t stick stubbornly to one weapon type. That’s the only way to discover which firearms suit you and which feel good. The same goes for the skills.
- Spend some time just wandering through the open world. It is a recreation of Washington D.C. that you can explore. Graphically, The Division 2 has a lot to offer, allowing you to admire your surroundings in all kinds of lighting conditions.
- Don’t be afraid to tackle hard content – even as a solo player. Even if you die, it’s just another experience that makes you stronger as an agent and sets new goals.
- Listen to audio logs and watch ECHOs mindfully. These are not just “filler material” and collectibles to be found in the world. They are well-told short stories that will immerse you deeper into The Division 2. Already in The Division 1, this “filler material” was one of the highlights.

- Explore, explore, explore! In the open world, you will find not only collectibles but also loot, crafting materials, and a ton of hidden details. There’s a variety of impressive graffiti, for instance.
- Don’t be afraid of the Dark Zone – or the 3 Dark Zones in The Division 2. Be the hunters of rogues or let the rogue in you out. The Dark Zones are a hallmark of The Division, offering something for both PvE and PvP fans.
- Set your own goals for each gaming session. Whether it’s progressing in the campaign, completing missions on challenging difficulty levels, or optimizing your build.
- Help other agents – then they will help you!
Further “pro tips” are mentioned in the reddit forum that you shouldn’t forget at launch, such as:
- Don’t forget to eat
- Don’t forget to drink
- Don’t forget to wash
- Don’t forget to have fun
10 Tips for Beginners – Beginner’s Guide
Here are more important tips that not only new agents should heed.
Take cover and stay in cover
Here’s the tip: The Division 2 is a third-person shooter with a cover system. This means you can – and must – use your environment as protection.
If you run openly towards enemies, you will die faster than you would like. Your agent is not designed to soak up many bullets.
So: Always stay in cover during combat. Move from cover to cover when you want to reposition.
Be smart about your weapon choice
Here’s the tip: Equip weapons that are useful in different situations. You can equip a primary, a secondary, and a sidearm (along with an additional customized weapon during endgame).
In most situations, you should carry a weapon for close range and another for medium to long range. If you only equip two shotguns, you’ll be disadvantaged against enemy snipers. Seek out weapons that suit you and are useful in many situations.
You can choose your weapons from these categories:
- Assault rifles
- Sniper rifles
- Rifles
- Light machine guns
- Submachine guns
- Pistols
- Shotguns
One of the first things you should do in The Division 2 is unlock the secondary weapon. This can be done with a “benefit” from the quartermaster in the White House, which you activate with SHD Tech.
Regularly return to the White House
Here’s the tip: Even if you can rush from one mission to the next, you should make a point of stopping by the White House regularly. Because there are NPCs who support you and provide important assistance.
Especially important is the quartermaster. You can activate skills and benefits with skill points and SHD tech that you earn throughout the game.
Here you can get not only passive perks that continuously benefit you but also new skills and improvements for skills. These help you in combat in various ways.
These are the skills in The Division 2: All skills allow for different tactical approaches:
- Pulse – impulse generator
- Turret – turret
- Hive – drone stock
- Chem Launcher – Chem launcher
- Firefly – firefly
- Seeker Mine – seeker mine
- Drone – drone
- Shield – shield

Don’t forget your grenades
Here’s the tip: You have not only weapons and skills to cause your enemies trouble. A well-placed grenade can also be useful. Especially in groups of enemies, it creates chaos, takes out multiple at once, or drives them apart.
Optimize your armor, but not too early in the game
Here’s the tip: Particularly in the endgame, armor pieces are crucial for getting the most out of your build. They possess various benefits and stat bonuses, plus there are exotics, gear sets, and brands with additional, unique advantages.
You have virtually limitless possibilities to set up your builds.
Even at the start, you should pay attention to armor pieces that carry bonuses suitable to your playstyle. However, new armor pieces primarily serve to improve the quality of your armor as you level up.
Here are the quality levels (by the way, also for weapons):
- Gray – the lame stuff that drops at the beginning
- Green (Standard)
- Blue (Specialized)
- Purple (Superior)
- Yellow (High-End)
Exotics and gear sets complement these quality tiers of your gear.
At the beginning, you should frequently swap your weapons and armor pieces for better gear that you find to be prepared for tougher activities.
Repair your armor in combat
Here’s the tip: Above your health bar, there is a white armor bar divided into segments. If the enemy shoots away your armor bar, you should quickly refill the armor with an armor kit.
Without armor, your health is directly attacked – and this goes down very quickly.
- So go into cover,
- make sure no enemy is about to come around the corner,
- and use an armor kit.
The repair animation takes a few seconds. You can find armor kits in crates or as random drops from enemies.
Use the map for orientation
Here’s the tip: You have a map available to help you orient yourself in the vast open world.

The map shows you main missions, side missions, and all other activities with symbols, which you can filter. Set a waypoint with the map so you can navigate there in the game.
By the way, you can also fast travel via the map.
Unlock all safehouses
Here’s the tip: In every region of Washington D.C. there are safehouses – secure buildings where NPCs wait. Search for these safehouses and unlock them, as they then serve as fast travel points for you.
While you can walk to every location, it can become tedious over time to run from one corner of the map to another every time. Fast travel points save you a lot of time.
In safehouses, you can also find data to locate SHD crates on the map.

Play solo or in a team, also as a clan
Here’s the tip: If some of your friends also own The Division 2, you can play the game entirely in coop with them. This is not only more fun but also allows for different build combinations and tactics.
Additionally, you can join a clan and activate special clan features.
However, you can also explore The Division 2 on your own. More about this can be read here:
If you play solo, you can use a function to call for reinforcements. Agents nearby will then be connected with you to capture control points together.
