In the Dino MMO ARK: Survival Evolved there are countless creatures. Some of them can fly and can be tamed by you. Gliding through the air on a dino is really cool, but which are the best flying dinos? Our author Sascha will tell you.
The flying dinos in ARK: Survival Evolved are versatile and some have their very special properties. I will tell you which are the best that you should tame.
1. Pteranodon – The perfect scout
The Pteranodon is one of the passive creatures in ARK and is one of the first dinos you encounter. If you attack it, the Pteranodon will try to flee. Even though this small flying reptile doesn’t look very strong, it offers some advantages.
All important information about the Pteranodon:
- Diet: Carnivore
- Favorite food: Regular Kibble from medium-sized eggs
- Saddle: Available from level 36
- Location: Found almost everywhere on every map, except Scorched Earth and Aberration
2. Argentavis – The perfect all-rounder
The Argentavis, a giant aggressive eagle, is the perfect all-rounder. Depending on your skill build, it can basically do everything. It can be used as a warbird, as a hunter, as a transport, or even as a scout. The Argentavis is also one of the best mounts for killing alphas, provided the pilot has enough flying experience.
All important information about the Argentavis:
- Diet: Carnivore
- Favorite food: Superior Kibble from large eggs
- Saddle: Available from level 62
- Location: Found on every map, except Aberration, in mountainous areas
3. Snow Owl – The group healer
The Snow Owl can only be found in Extinction but offers some special features. It can be used as an all-rounder like the Argentavis or as a group healer. The special attack of this owl freezes itself and all surrounding targets, healing everyone by 40 health points per second. It also possesses an infrared vision to detect heat signatures from afar.
All important information about the Snow Owl:
- Diet: Carnivore
- Favorite food: Superior Kibble from large eggs
- Saddle: Available from level 61
- Location: Only found in Extinction in the Frost biome
4. Tapejara – The perfect hunter
The Tapejara has become my absolute favorite over time. On one hand, it can carry three players and medium-sized creatures, on the other hand, its mobility is a dream. The Tapejara can be controlled like a helicopter and positioned perfectly. However, if you approach it, it will seek to escape as a passive bird.
This flying dino is well-suited as a hunter because two players with a ranged weapon can safely shoot other dinos or players from the back of the Tapejara while the first player is at the controls.
All important information about the Tapejara:
- Diet: Carnivore
- Favorite food: Superior Kibble from large eggs
- Saddle: Available from level 55
- Location: Found on every map, except Aberration, in warmer and forested areas
5. Wyvern – The battle machine
The Wyverns are among the most popular creatures in ARK and are seen as a plague in the cool story. They are not easy to obtain, very strong, and depending on their type, have a fire, lightning, ice, or poison breath. They are very aggressive and cannot be tamed in the wild. They are feared opponents and the kings of the skies. They are also excellent for hunting gigas or titans.
All important information about the Wyvern:
- Diet: Carnivore
- Favorite food: Meat
- Saddle: No saddle required
- Location: Found on Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, and Valguero. Corrupted Wyverns can be found on Extinction
The Wyverns cannot be tamed. You must steal an egg and hatch it. It can take 96 hours for a Wyvern to fully mature.
