Swords of Legends Online
Setting: Wuxia | Developer: Juvty Worlds | Platform: PC | Release Date: July 9, 2021 | Model: Buy2Play
What kind of game is this? Swords of Legends Online (SOLO) is an MMORPG from China, brought to the West by Gameforge in 2021. It is a classic theme park game that offers many quests and a linear story.
The focus of the endgame is on dungeons with various difficulty levels, PvP content, housing, and various life skills that allow the game to stand out a bit from its competitors. Additionally, new content in the form of events, further dungeons, and raids with various modes have already been announced.
A detailed gameplay report on SOLO can be found here: I played 80 hours of Swords of Legends and say: “The MMORPG is much better than you think”. Additionally, the German YouTuber Entenburg has taken a closer look at the game in a video:
What makes it special? Swords of Legends stands out particularly with its beautiful graphics and fair equipment system. Unlike other Asian MMORPGs, there is no randomness in upgrading equipment and no risk of anything breaking.
The MMORPG offers 6 different playable classes – Reaper, Summoner, Bard, Sword Mage, Berserker and Spear Master – each with 2 specializations and without gender lock.
Another highlight is the shop, which not only avoids pay-to-win but also pay-to-convenience. Accordingly, there are no XP boosters, bag or bank expansions, and no other gameplay advantages if you invest real money.
How has it performed since release? The release of SOLO went extremely well. There were no server crashes in Europe, although there were some lags and queues at quest mobs in some heavily populated areas.
Despite this very positive start, there is a bit of hype missing around the game:
- At its peak, SOLO had 18,701 players on Steam on July 12 (via SteamCharts). Thus, it ranks higher on Valve’s platform than games like SWTOR, Albion Online, or RuneScape. Additionally, there are players in the Gameforge client itself and users on Epic, so total player numbers are higher.
- On Steam, SOLO currently has 1,772 reviews, of which 76% are positive. Thus, the game almost made it into the list of MMORPGs with the best ratings on Steam (starting from 79%).
Overall, SOLO is quite well received. Whether it convinces players in the long term will be seen in the coming months.
