Collecting gear in World of Warcraft is old news – but right now it’s more fun than it has been in years.
If there’s one thing that has remained constant over the years in World of Warcraft, it’s the amount of criticism players have. But at least currently, many seem very satisfied with Dragonflight and the recent changes – even if some classes are being heavily nerfed right now.
However, one thing is currently receiving praise from many sides: The way gear is collected and improved, that is the “gearing system”.
This is what the community thinks: In the WoW Subreddit, a post by TheGreatGreenDragon is currently circulating, saying:
It feels like you can really grind hard to increase your power level without relying too much on randomness. I haven’t dropped a single tier set piece in the raid in the last 3 weeks, but with the tokens, the keystone master, and the vault, I was able to complete the set this weekend and significantly increase my DPS. The only time I felt like I wasn’t making item level progress was when we tried a hard boss in the heroic raid for several hours, but that’s understandable.
There are just so many ways to improve yourself.
There is a lot of support for this. While some note that they were skeptical about the new emblem system at first, they have now warmed to it and hope that it will remain in future expansions.
Lats9 summarizes it like this:
The new gearing system is one of the best systems ever made:
- It allows better and faster progress.
- It makes gear from lower difficulty levels relevant for a longer time.
- It provides actual progress for solo players.
- It makes farming transmog very easy.
What has Blizzard changed? Already in the last season, Blizzard introduced the flight stones and emblems – at that time still as items in the inventory. Meanwhile, all emblems have become currencies, so they no longer take up inventory space. The system of “emblem fragments” has also been abolished, resulting in fewer currencies overall.
Additionally, progress is a bit slower – there are more tiers in upgrades and slightly stricter caps per week.
Is there still criticism? Yes, there are some points of criticism remaining. The first issue is that flight stones are received in too small quantities. This is particularly noticeable to players who visit only a few dungeons a week and rely mainly on items from the vault. They often have to grind world quests additionally or visit a few more dungeons to be able to carry out upgrades.
The second major point of criticism is the ratio of items received from raids and Mythic+. At the end of the week, a “Mythic+11” already provides items that are equivalent to heroic raid bosses – many find this inappropriate. At the same time, a “Mythic+16” is hardly comparable in difficulty to a mythic raid boss. The opinion here is that raids feel a little worse than dungeons.
What do you think of the current gearing system in World of Warcraft? Do you like the system, or do you find it too cumbersome?
