Since the Dark Souls series, multiplayer has been a favorite among the long-established Soulsborne community. Thus, many fans are now celebrating the clip of a player who managed to deceive an entire group in PvP in Elden Ring thanks to a nasty trick.
The multiplayer of Elden Ring offers both co-op and PvP. Especially the latter stands out compared to other games.
- Here there are no different modes, no proper player searches or leaderboards. Overall, PvP functions just like in Dark Souls.
- You can invade the world of other players and must take out the host.
- During this, you take on the form of a red phantom.
- However, the host can also call co-op players for help. In the worst case, the invading player has to face an entire group alone.
Such was the case for reddit user BobbyBuckets_69. However, the player applied a sneaky trick that is well-known among PvP experts.
Since he was outnumbered, Bobby opted for a passive playstyle:
The actual fight lasted not even 15 seconds. Here’s how the attacker proceeded:
- Instead of going offensively and directly against his opponents, he hid in a hard-to-see spot and simply waited.
- He also used a ring for camouflage that made the red form of the invader disappear. Thus, he looked like a host or an NPC.
- Then he sat for 15 minutes on a wooden beam, a few meters above an elevator.
Clearly, the player knew exactly where his group wanted to go. So he made himself comfortable in the darkness and just waited until his target unknowingly walked into the elevator, accompanied by his two co-op players.
Now the assassin’s hour had come. He jumped down from the beam onto the players, used the Ash of War ability of his Colossal Sword, and dismantled the completely taken by surprise group in no time.
In such maneuvers, it’s crucial to be able to estimate the fall damage in Elden Ring to avoid anything going wrong during a jump.
Players praise “long-lasting” PvP, but some find the clip “frightening”
This is how the players react: In the comments, players celebrate how Bobby misled his victims. They also ask about the ring that made his red phantom aura disappear.
You can actually buy it from the Twin Maiden NPC at the Table of Grace for 1,000 runes. Another variant makes you look like a co-op player.
Otherwise, many players express interest in the PvP of Elden Ring. However, some have concerns about the difficulty. SolarClipZ writes: “PvP sounds fun in this game, but the game is so damn big and I take my time for it, so I don’t really have time to try it out.”
Numerous other community members respond by saying that the PvP modes of earlier FromSoftware games have stubborn fans anyway. Even several years after the release, you can still find an active PvP community in Dark Souls – when the servers are not taken offline due to hacking issues.
They narrate similar stories where they themselves fell victim to such attacks or started such actions themselves.
However, there are indeed some players who are put off by PvP. Especially as a newcomer, the game is challenging enough without needing to bring in PvP experts with hundreds of hours of experience in Dark Souls to stomp you into the ground.
But what do you think about it? Have you tried PvP in Elden Ring? What are your experiences? Or do you belong to those who prefer to refrain and focus on solo or co-op sessions?
