Will loading times on the PS5 soon be a thing of the past? The console’s speed is certainly a high priority for Sony – and it is set to far surpass that of the PS4.
This is why the PS5 is so fast: In the Corporate Strategy Meeting (via Sony) on May 19, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida discussed how the PS5 aims to revolutionize the “user experience for players”.
To further enhance the immersion of games, not only is resolution to be improved. The speed of games also takes on high importance.
The focus here is on the custom high-speed SSD of the console. “We plan to achieve data processing speeds that are about 100 times faster than the PS4,” the CEO explained. “Loading times for games should become much shorter. Players should be able to move through vast game worlds almost without delay.”

More realistic games through new technology
Games are becoming more immersive: With the new technologies in the console, games are expected to become even more realistic. In addition to the fast speed, the DualSense controller and a new 3D audio system are also expected to contribute:
“By combining speed, haptics, and sound, we can enhance the wonderful experience on the PS4 even further and make the PS5 a next-generation console by providing player experiences that were previously not possible.”
– Kenichiro Yoshida
The SSD had already caused a stir before. During an impressive tech demo of Unreal Engine 5, Epic Boss Tim Sweeney highlighted how powerful the new SSD is, and that “the world of loading screens” is over.
