While the design of the PS5 is not yet known, interesting patents are being discovered. This assistant could advise you while gaming.
Where do the information come from? It is a patent that has been submitted to the US Patent Office. Just because it is a patent does not mean that Sony will actually implement this idea by the PS5 release in winter 2020.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to take a closer look at the patent. Because the idea behind the assistant presented in the patent is quite exciting for most players.
PS5 could help with the right weapon choice
How does the assistant work? The assistant presented in the patent has what is called a “Game Play Effectiveness Module”, roughly translated to a module that is supposed to make gaming more efficient.
This module compares your actions in the game with a database and checks which actions would be the most sensible in this or the next situation. According to the patent, it should work like this:
- The assistant collects data about actions, which are then analyzed on a special server.
- Based on the data, the assistant calculates how much time you are likely to need with the equipped weapon for the section.
- Additionally, it suggests an alternative weapon that could help you complete the section faster.
- The assistant also recognizes when you are terrible with a weapon and suggests an alternative here as well.
What else is the assistant capable of? The assistant should also help with time management: You’re still considering playing the next section, but your favorite series starts on TV in 30 minutes? The PS5 will remind you that it would take significantly longer to complete the section. It is unknown how the PS5 can be linked with, for example, a calendar.
The patent sounds pretty cool and could make gaming easier if this assistant actually comes. The PS4 only needs two things for this, and you might not even have to buy the PlayStation 5 (or not immediately):

- One patent is supposed to be a solution against nausea in VR.
- Another patent is supposed to protect players from mean spoilers.
- Another possibility is an intelligent AI that is supposed to be able to talk to you. The system is called PlayStation Assist.
- Thanks to a robot, you might never have to play alone again.
