Now that the accessories for the PlayStation 5 are already being delivered and sold in the USA, many players have experimented with the DualSense controller of the PS5 and discovered something curious.
Where does the info come from? The official launch of the PlayStation 5 will take place shortly – in the USA and some other countries on November 12, and in Germany and the rest of Europe on November 19.
However, Sony has already shipped the first PS5 consoles and accessories to some selected media representatives and influencers, and since the weekend, the accessories for Sony’s next-gen console have been available in the USA – including the new DualSense controller, which has already received a lot of praise.
Since very few people can currently use this with the PS5, many players have simply tested the compatibility with other platforms – with interesting results.
DualSense controller does not work on PlayStation 4
This is what happens on the PS4: If you connect the DualSense to the PS4 via USB cable, nothing happens – the PS4 doesn’t even recognize it. Wirelessly, at least a connection is possible, but that’s about it. The DualSense still does not respond to input.
However, there is already a sort of workaround for PS4 games. You can connect the new PS5 controller via USB cable to a PC or Mac and then play PS4 games streamed via Remote Play with the DualSense. This is currently the only possibility.
This is what happens on PS3: On the PS3, the DualSense can indeed be used as a controller – likely due to the PS3’s compatibility with generic Bluetooth controllers. However, the rumble functions or other special features of the controller are not available here.
This is how it looks on other platforms: On PC, the DualSense can be used without any issues – with a wired connection even without any configuration. The PS5 controller even works on the Nintendo Switch via a third-party adapter. The DualSense can also be used as a Bluetooth controller on Android devices. However, the next-gen features and rumble functions are not available.
In fact, the new gamepad was supposed to be compatible with iOS devices, but with the current version of iOS, the PS5 controller is reportedly still not recognized.
By the way, here’s the situation with the PS4 controller DualShock 4 on the PS5: For the new PS5 games, your PS4 controller is no longer sufficient, says Sony
