NPCs in MMORPGs are actually helpful. But not so in World of Warcraft, as they have tried to rip off diligent craftsmen cold-bloodedly.
It is now well known that some see World of Warcraft more as an economic simulation. Sometimes, it can also help to rip off your fellow players and hope that they make some mistakes in the crafting professions. But even NPCs have been so brazen and regularly overwhelmed craftsmen with orders that border on fraud. But that has come to an end.
What about the crafting NPCs? In The War Within, there was an innovation for the mechanic of crafting orders. Instead of only relying on orders from real players, there are also crafting orders from NPCs every few days. They want something made and in return, they give a small reward – sometimes a few points of profession knowledge, sometimes a small amount of gold.
However, you can’t just click through these orders in order because often many of the necessary materials are missing. As a craftsman, you have to contribute these materials in order to complete the order. With players, you would typically just refuse the order – but with NPCs, you turn a blind eye. After all, important skill points are at stake.
However, the NPCs have been particularly brazen in recent weeks. Not only were threads or ores missing, but sometimes also materials that could cost several tens of thousands of gold. For a single point of profession knowledge, you could – depending on the profession – easily lay down 100,000 gold in personal costs.
Smooth rip-off, as you would only expect from nasty players.
What has been changed now? With a hotfix, Blizzard has now adjusted the crafting orders of the NPCs. The changes can be summarized as follows:
- All NPC crafting orders now have a higher chance of basic materials being provided.
- NPC crafting orders now usually require a lower quality than before.
- Many abnormally expensive items, such as alchemy cauldrons or engineering toys, are no longer requested.
However, note that these changes only apply to new crafting orders that you receive from NPCs from now on. If you still have old ones in your list that are still ongoing for a few days, these have not been changed.
Be careful not to get tricked in the auction house.
