What kind of game is this? With “Elden Ring Tarnished Edition,” the developers of the popular game wanted to release their own version for the Nintendo Switch 2. This version was supposed to include not only the base game and the large expansion “Shadow of the Erdtree” but also additional content such as new armors, weapons, and a new customization option for the mount.
While the additional content was to be released for existing platforms as well, all players now have to wait longer than planned.

New console and still problems
What have the developers announced? The developers of Elden Ring have announced that the “Tarnished Edition” of their game will no longer be released in 2025. They are postponing the release of the game for the time being.
As a reason, they clearly cite performance issues on the new Nintendo Switch 2. Although the developers do not directly state that the console has too poor performance, the fact that the 3-year-old Elden Ring from 2022 runs on PC, PS5, Xbox, and the Steam Deck points to the console as a problem.
When is the game now supposed to be released? The developers themselves don’t know for sure. They explain in their post on FromSoftware.jp that they are postponing the title for an indefinite period, but simultaneously mention 2026 as a guideline. However, it is unknown whether the game will be released in January or December.
The developers of the game want to address the fans at a later date with a new release date, once they know when it will be.
