Sony has finally revealed the design of the PS5 controller. There is a lot of new information, but not all fans are thrilled. Especially two things unsettle the fans.
By now, it is known how the controller is supposed to look and what features it is to offer. Even the rumor that the controller is supposed to receive haptic feedback has been confirmed by Sony in its blog post. All features of the PS5 controller will be presented individually in our follow-up article.
However, not all users are excited about the presented controller for the PS5. There is intense debate about two things, which are still only speculations. Sony has not yet confirmed these features.
PS5 Controller – two features are being discussed
What is the first discussed feature? The DualShock 4 has a lightbar on the back of the controller, which has hardly any relevant gameplay functions apart from PSVR. However, the lightbar on the DualShock 4 cannot be turned off; instead, the lights of the DualShock 4 can only be dimmed. The lighting primarily drains the battery, and the controller needs to be quickly recharged.
The PS5 controller will also come with a lightbar. Now, the lightbar surrounds the touchpad of the PS5 controller. Many now suspect that the lightbar cannot be turned off again and will waste energy just like the DualShock 4.
What is the second discussed feature? In a reddit post, users are especially arguing about one feature: fast-forwarding and rewinding films with the controller’s back buttons. The PS5 controller is also expected to have this function again, so it is assumed.
And many users are annoyed about this. The post starter writes: “Good to know that the PS5 will retain the feature that rewinds or fast-forwards the film every time the controller is set down.” And he is not alone in this opinion:
- So writes rustyphish: “This is my most wanted feature since there are no removable batteries in the controller anymore. Please, let me turn off the controller. It drains so much energy while I’m just watching Netflix.”
- Also, CyberStr explains: “All the time. No matter how carefully I set the controller down, these triggers activate every time and drive me crazy. Now I place it on a soft surface like my bed so that it doesn’t happen anymore.”
- And DarkLordsDaughter adds: “Every time I watch a movie, the fast-forward and rewind functions are on the trigger buttons. And every time you lay the controller on the sofa, it causes fast-forwarding and rewinding.”
Will these features come? Whether the PS5 controller will have these functions like the DualShock 4 is still unclear. Sony has only introduced the controller so far and stated that developers will receive the new controller soon.
However, there is also positive news. Many users are relieved that the PS5 controller is supposed to have a feature that many fans wish for. Many users also like the design. Others are also relieved that Sony is providing news about the PlayStation 5 at all.
