In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the new Operation Spectre Rising will be launched on April 30th with an update on PS4. Fans can look forward to these contents during the new season.
What are Operations in Black Ops 4? Operations are part of the so-called Supply Stream Progression. This system is intended to continuously supply Black Ops 4 with fresh content, similar to how Fortnite manages with Seasons.
The Operations in Black Ops 4 are essentially nothing more than Seasons. They also provide new seasonal content for the game at certain intervals. The latest operation is now called Spectre Rising.

When exactly does the new Operation start? Operation Spectre Rising will initially start on April 30th on PS4. An exact time is not yet known, but updates and content drops usually occur around 7 PM our time.
The launch on PC and Xbox One will traditionally take place a week later.
This is what Operation Spectre Rising offers in Multiplayer
Multiplayer enthusiasts can look forward to numerous new contents during the new season. Some of them will start in the launch week, while others will follow during the course of the new operation. We have summarized the highlights for you.
New Specialist: As previously teased, a new specialist Spectre, an old fan favorite, is coming to Black Ops 4. He carries a smoke grenade as specialized equipment, which is perfect for stealth kills. Only Spectre can see through this dense smoke.
Moreover, Spectre uses his special ability, the Shadow Blade – a sword. This shifts the view to third-person perspective, providing better visibility as Spectre dodges enemy fire with acrobatic moves and slices his opponents.
Spectre will be unlocked on the first tier of the new stream and will then be available as a playable character in traditional multiplayer and in Blackout.
New game modes:
- Prop Hunt – a popular fun mode from some “Call of Duty” titles
- Capture the Flag
- Additional Barebones modes
New maps: Owners of the Black Ops Pass can look forward to the following 3 maps
- Masquerade: Takes place at a festival in a densely populated residential area of Bangladesh and in a multi-story building of the US Embassy.

- Artifact: Takes place in a rocky landscape of Iceland, where you can move in a platform-style manner across multiple levels and fight for advantageous positions.

- WMD: This popular map originally comes from Black Ops 1, set on the grounds of an old, abandoned Soviet base in a snowy mountainous region.

Additionally, there will be an alternative version of the Hacienda map available to all players, which can now be played during dusk.
New weapons: These weapons can be earned from day one through the new stream:
- Nifo’Oti melee weapon
- Light Machine Gun (LMG) Tigershark
This is what Operation Spectre Rising offers in Blackout mode
Here are the biggest highlights you can expect during the season in Blackout:
New map updates: As some fans have already speculated, the game world of Blackout will change as part of the new season.

- Wetworks: The dam on the regular large map of Blackout will be blown up, flooding large areas of the landscape. The areas around Hijacked (Yacht), Cargo Docks, or the Farm near the shooting range are now underwater. You can also move around with boats there.
- Alcatraz map: Game flow and layout will be improved.
New game modes:
- Bounty Hunter: Find Spectre crates from which you can get his “Shadow Blade” sword as well as numerous other useful items like Level 3 armor, smoke grenades, and stealth perks. When you equip the Shadow Blade, you become Spectre with unique skills. Fight your way to the top in a constantly shrinking circle.
- Ground War: Large-scale “team vs. team” battles that can descend into pure chaos.

New characters:
- Uncle Frank (older Sgt. Woods from Black Ops 2, only with the Black Ops Pass)
- Misty from the Zombies Victis crew
- Sergei, Renzov’s prison buddy
- Sarah Hall, a reconnaissance expert infected with CORVUS from Black Ops 3
- Blackjack, the black market dealer
- Mason, the main protagonist from Black Ops
New weapons and gear:
- DART killstreak from regular multiplayer is now also available in Blackout.
- Throughout the operation, new weapons, vehicles, and other new equipment are to follow.
This is what Operation Spectre Rising offers in Zombies
New Gauntlets: Gauntlets are special challenges of the Zombie mode. They involve 30 rounds, can be repeated endlessly, and have unique rules for each round.
As part of Spectre Rising, there will be two new Gauntlets:
- Super Blood Wolf Moon (for Dead of the Night)
- Labours of Hercules (for Ancient Evil)
Additionally, Hard Mode Gauntlets are to follow. There will also be a new Mystery Box weapon (Tigerschark LMG) and two new features:
- Classic Elixir Restock: When you consume an Elixir during a Zombie match, the empty slot will be filled with a random Classic Elixir.
- Gauntlet Leaderboards for friends.
These innovations bring Operation Spectre Rising to the Black Market
New contraband stream: There will traditionally be a new stream with 50 ranks – for the first half of the operation. Players can unlock, among other things,
- new weapons (Nifo’Oti melee weapon, Light Machine Gun Tigershark)
- new Mastercraft weapons
- new MKII weapons
- new Blackout characters
- new Specialist outfits
- and more new cosmetic items like gestures, war paints, or jump packs.
More content is expected to arrive throughout the season.
New cosmetic items: There will also be two new categories for cosmetic items:
- Death Effects: These change the effects of the projectiles you shoot. Instead of blood splatter, confetti rains down when you kill an opponent. All kills will then trigger the equipped effect.
- Weapon Charms: These will allow you to further customize your weapons.
What do you think of the contents of the new operation?
